On Wednesday, October 31, 2012, His Royal HIghness Prince Willem-Alexander of Oranje opened the new Sarcoidosis Center at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam.
“Sarcoidosis is a disease in which abnormal collections of chronic inflammatory cells form as nodules in multiple organs. The cause of sarcoidosis is unknown. The inflammatory cells that appear are usually not of the necrotizing variety and are most often located in the lungs or the lymph nodes but virtually any organ can be affected. Normally, the onset is gradual. Most patients heal spontaneously within a few years.”
