Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco to Pay an Official Visit to the Kingdom of Spain in June, Confirms Palais Princier de Monaco

In Monaco-Ville, the Palais Princier de Monaco has announced that Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco will undertake an official visit to the Kingdom of Spain from June 1st through June 2nd, 2026.

The visit will commemorate the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Principality of Monaco and the Kingdom of Spain, as well as the 10th anniversary of the Spanish branch of the Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco.

Relations between the Principality of Monaco and the Kingdom of Spain date to the early 16th century. In 1524, the Treaty of Burgos, signed by Honoré II of Monaco and Emperor Charles V, placed the Principality under Spanish protection and established a period of close political and dynastic relations between the Grimaldi dynasty and the Crown of Spain that endured for centuries through diplomatic, cultural, and royal exchanges.

According to the Palais Princier, the Sovereign Prince will hold a meeting with His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain at the Palacio de La Zarzuela. In the afternoon, Their Majesties King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain will host a luncheon in honour of the Sovereign Prince Couple at the Palacio de La Zarzuela on the occasion of the official visit.

The Sovereign Prince will also hold a meeting with the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, during the visit.

On June 1st, Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene will preside over the inauguration of the exhibition Monaco y España: Cinco Siglos de Historia Compartida at the Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid.

The exhibition, dedicated to five centuries of historical relations between Monaco and Spain, forms part of the broader commemorations marking the anniversary year and is expected to examine the dynastic, diplomatic, and cultural ties between the Principality and the Crown of Spain across several centuries.

Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco Welcome Members of the Permanent Commission of the Council of Europe

On Thursday in Monaco-Ville, Their Serene Highnesses  Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco welcomed members of the Permanent Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in the Cour d’Honneur of the Palais Princier de Monaco.

The visit took place as the Principality of Monaco assumes the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which Monaco will hold from May 15th through November 10th, 2026.

The Committee of Ministers serves as the Council of Europe’s main decision-making body, coordinating cooperation among member states on matters including human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

According to the Palais Princier, Monaco’s presidency will focus on several major priorities, including the protection of vulnerable persons, the rights of women and children, combating disinformation, and promoting ethics in sport.

The meeting was held days after the official transfer of the presidency to the Principality of Monaco, which is being conducted under the theme: Protection for all, through an effective organization capable of responding to contemporary challenges.

Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco Attend the Formula E Monte-Carlo Tee Prix Award Ceremony Ahead of Historic Visit to Spain

In La Turbie, France, Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco, accompanied by Mr. Gareth Wittstock, attended the award ceremony for the inaugural Formula E Monte-Carlo Tee Prix held at the Monte-Carlo Golf Club.

The charitable golf tournament, organized in support of the Fondation Princesse Charlène de Monaco, brought together Formula E drivers, sponsors, professional golfers, and invited personalities on the historic course overlooking the Principality.

Conducted in the “Scramble” format, the tournament featured a series of skill-based challenges, including “Nearest the Pin” and “Longest Drive,” combining sporting competition with philanthropic engagement in an atmosphere described in a statement issued by the Palais Princier de Monaco as both “convivial and competitive.”

Princess Charlene presented the first prize to the “Influencers” team, composed of Mr. Seb Delanney, Miss Emma Houlmiere, Miss Mathilde Ostrowski, and Formula E driver Mr. Maximilian Günther. The second prize was presented by Prince Albert II to Team “Aurora,” composed of Mr. Lee Flay, Mr. Matt Beal, Mr. Lee Attreed, and Mr. Westbury Gillett. The third prize was presented by Mr. Gareth Wittstock.

His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco will visit Madrid, Spain, on June 1st through 2nd for a series of engagements marking the 150th anniversary of modern diplomatic relations between the Principality of Monaco and the Kingdom of Spain.

According to the Embassy of the Principality of Monaco in Spain, the Sovereign Prince will preside over the inauguration of the exhibition, Monaco y España: cinco siglos de historia compartida (Monaco et l’Espagne: cinq siècles d’histoire partagée), which will be presented at the Pabellón Villanueva within the Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid.

Organized by the Embassy of the Principality of Monaco, the exhibition explores five centuries of historical, cultural, and diplomatic relations between the two countries. 

Relations between the Principality of Monaco and the Kingdom of Spain date back to the early 16th century. If confirmed by the Palais Princier de Monaco, in the coming days, the visit would mark the Princess’s first official visit to the Kingdom of Spain since her marriage to the Sovereign Prince in 2011.

Prince Albert II has visited Spain on several occasions in recent years, including cultural and environmental engagements in Cantabria, Burgos, and Madrid.

Princess Charlene of Monaco Releases Rehabilitated Red-Footed Falcon in France and Announces a New Wildlife Patronage

This afternoon, Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene of Monaco participated in the release of a rehabilitated Red-footed Falcon at the Observatoire Astronomique du plateau de Calern in Caussols, France.

The Princess was accompanied by her brother, Mr. Gareth Wittstock, during the event organized in cooperation with the wildlife rescue association Instinct Animal SOS Faune Sauvage.

According to the Palais Princier de Monaco, the bird of prey had previously suffered severe injuries, including electrocution and a fractured wing, before undergoing several months of veterinary treatment and rehabilitation. The species, known for its long migratory routes between Asia and southern Africa, was later released back into the wild during the event.

Princess Charlene, who has supported several animal welfare and wildlife protection initiatives in Monaco and neighboring regions, also announced her patronage of the association. The Princess currently serves as President of the SPA Refuge de Monaco.

Following the release, the Princess visited the organization’s wildlife treatment center in Saint-Cézaire-sur-Siagne in southeastern France. Opened in 2025, the facility specializes in the rescue, treatment, and rehabilitation of injured wild animals from across the Alpes-Maritimes region and neighboring departments.

According to the association, the center has already treated nearly animals since beginning operations and functions through a combination of public support, private donations, and corporate sponsorship.

Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco Open a New Maternity Block at Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace in Monaco

This morning, Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene presided over the inauguration of a newly completed maternity block at the Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace, located in the Jardin Exotique quartier.

The ceremony included the unveiling of a commemorative plaque within the obstetric emergency unit, followed by a tour of the facility. Accompanied by the Minister of the State of the Principality of Monaco, Mr. Christophe Mirmand, the Director of the Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace, Ms. Benoîte Rousseau de Sevelinges, and the Chief of the Maternity Department at the Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace, Professor Bruno Carbonne, the Princely Couple visited several of the newly developed spaces, including a double parental room, a birthing suite, a hydrotherapy room, and upgraded obstetric care units.

The redevelopment forms part of a broader modernization of the hospital’s maternity services, with a focus on improving care for mothers and newborns through updated, family-centered facilities.

The inauguration follows the recent opening of the hospital’s Parent-Child Unit and represents a further step in the establishment of a comprehensive Mother and Child center at the Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace.

Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III of Monaco’s 1956 Wedding to Be Celebrated in a New Exhibition at the Palace in Monaco

On Friday, the Palais Princier de Monaco announced the opening of the exhibition Le mariage du siècle: Monaco. 12–19 Avril 1956, to be presented in the Grands Appartements of the Palais Princier de Monaco from June 8th to October 15th, 2026.

The exhibition is being held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the marriage of Prince Rainier III of Monaco and Miss Grace Kelly, which took place in April 1956, three months after the announcement of their engagement in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Bringing together photographs, film material, garments, accessories, gifts, and archival documents, the exhibition examines the sequence of events surrounding the wedding, from the arrival of Miss Grace Kelly to the Principality of Monaco on April 12th, 1956, to the couple’s departure for their honeymoon on April 19th, 1956, situating the ceremonies within the broader context of their international reception.

Prince Albert II of Monaco Meets Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset Ahead of the Principality of Monaco’s Presidency

In Monaco-Ville, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco held a meeting with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr. Alain Berset, in the Salon de Famille at the Palais Princier de Monaco.

The meeting was held in the presence of the Directeur de Cabinet, Mr. Olivier Wenden, the Conseiller de Gouvernement-Ministre des Relations Extérieures et de la Coopération, Ms. Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, and the Ambassadeur représentant permanent de Monaco auprès du Conseil de l’Europe, His Excellency Mr. Gabriel Revel.

Secretary General Berset was accompanied by the Directrice adjointe de Cabinet du Secrétariat général, Ms. Natacha de Roeck, and the Conseiller au sein du Cabinet du Secrétariat général, Mr. Thibault Curmi.

Discussions focused on major European issues, with particular emphasis on the promotion of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law, which constitute the core mandate of the Council of Europe. The meeting also addressed the Principality of Monaco’s priorities in advance of its presidency of the Committee of Ministers.

The Principality of Monaco will assume the presidency from May 15th to November 10th, 2026, marking the first time the Principality has held the role since it acceded to the Council of Europe on October 5th, 2004.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Sovereign Prince elevated Secretary General Alain Berset to the rank of Commandeur de l’Ordre de Saint-Charles.

Founded on March 15th, 1858, by Charles III of Monaco, the Ordre de Saint-Charles is one of the Principality of Monaco’s principal orders of merit. It is conferred in recognition of eminent services rendered to the State and to the Sovereign Prince. The order is awarded across several ranks, Chevalier, Officier, Commandeur, Grand Officier, and Grand-Croix, and remains a central element of the Principality of Monaco’s system of honors, reflecting the Principality’s longstanding traditions of state distinction and service.

Today’s visit forms part of preparations for the Principality of Monaco’s forthcoming presidency, during which the Principality is expected to advance its engagement in multilateral cooperation and the institutional work of the Council of Europe.
