On Saturday, October 6, 2012, Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden were in South Minneapolis to attend a dedication ceremony for the new Nelson Cultural Center. Their Majesties also attended a reception held in their honor at the Governor of Minnesota’s residence, Mark Dayton. According to the newspaper, Twin Cities, Governor Dayton recently proclaimed, “…Saturday as ‘American Swedish Institute Day’…” in recognition of the “… heritage and bonds shared by Minnesota and Sweden.”
The ASI has a great new cafe (FIKA), plus a very browseable gift store . . .
What with the Swedish and Norwegian heritage here in Minnesota, royal visits are not infrequent.
