On the afternoon of July 4, 2013, Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan arrived in Tōno, Japan to visit a temporary housing complex for 70 families who lost their homes due to the March 11, 2011, 9.0 earthquake off the coast of Tōhoku. The powerful earthquake caused a massive tsunami which devastated areas within the Iwate Prefecture.

On July 4, 2013, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco arrived at the International Olympic Committee headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland to attend the announcement of the host city for the 3rd Summer Youth Olympic Games. So which city was chosen to host the upcoming games? Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias, looking rather irritated, attended the International Olympic Committee Extraordinary Session. The city of Madrid is campaigning to host the upcoming 2020 Summer Olympic Games along with Tokyo and Istanbul.

On Thursday, July 4, 2013, His Royal Highness Prince Philippe of Belgium arrived at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Antwerp to participate in the conference, Probing Vegetation: From Past to Future.
Upon his arrival the prince was bombarded by the press hoping he would answer questions about his father’s abdication announcement early yesterday evening. “I am fully aware of the responsibilities that I have. I will continue to invest myself with all my heart…” said Prince Philippe before being ushered into the conference.
Anyway, the Probing Vegetation: From Past to Future two-day conference will focus on “…the operational and scientific achievements of SPOT-VEGETATION and the perspectives that will be offered to the user’s community by Proba-V…” if that makes any sense. 🙂

On Tuesday, July 2, 2013, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal arrived in Stratford-Upon-Avon to participate in the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Citizens Advice Bureau. Click here for more information about yesterday’s event.
This morning in Glasgow, Scotland the princess attended the 50th anniversary of the completion of the Clyde Tunnel. The Princess Royal also opened the North Highland College’s University of the Highlands and Islands Equestrian Centre at Dale Farm in Caithness. The Princess Royal is Chancellor of the University of the Highlands and Islands.

On July 3, 2013, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II of Jordan arrived in Aqaba, Jordan to inaugurate the newly expanded arrivals terminal at the King Hussein International Airport.
According to Petra News, the expansion aims at “…boosting competitiveness of the airport in the region to serve the economic, tourism and investment sectors by improving the efficiency of procedures for passengers which will not exceed more than 25 minutes.”

On July 2, 2013, Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex visited the Vale School which “…supports young people with physical disabilities and special educational needs” according to the Haringey Independent newspaper.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Visits Abbotsford House and The John Buchan Museum in the Scottish Borders. (VIDEOS)
On Wednesday, July 3, 2013, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II arrived in Roxburgh in the Scottish Borders to officially reopen Abbotsford House, the former home of the late writer and poet, Sir Walter Scott.
According to the Scotsman newspaper, Abbotsford House was closed for two years and the total cost for much needed renovations cost £12 million.
Her Majesty also visited the John Buchan Museum in Peebles. According to the Associated Press Her Majesty “…met with members of the Buchan family before touring the museum to view exhibits and meet staff…”
