On September 19, 2012, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal was at Belwade Farm Rescue in Scotland to open a new indoor arena and visitor center as well as to unveil a new plaque.  The Belwade Farm Rescue is a center which rescues neglected and abused horses.

Also on today’s agenda for the princess was a visit to the HMS Queen Elizabeth, which is “…currently under construction at Rosyth Dockyard…” and a visit to the Scottish School of Forestry at Inverness College.

  1. I was very impressed with the Royal Highness Princess Anne genuine interest in horse welfare. I had the most rewarding experience when she indicated that in the EU funded project that I am coordinating we should avoid tick boxes type of protocols to assess animal welfare. Our project has the European Union mandate to develop horse welfare assessment protocols and we will be in contact with the Royal Highness Princess Anne for further discussion how to implement science based welfare assessment protocols for horses.
