On June 11, 2011, the Trooping the Colour took place in London, England.  The entire British royal family came out for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday parade.

A Happy Birthday to H.R.H. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh!!

Okay, I am not afraid to admit that H.R.H. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh is one of my all time favorite royals.

With this being said, today is The Duke turns 90 years young.

King Kamehameha Day: Two-Day Celebrations Throughout the Islands of Hawai’i

Tomorrow is the beginning of the two-day celebrations to mark King Kamehameha Day in Hawai’i and this year’s theme is Wahine Holo Lio.  For those who are unaware of about the history of this awesome day here is a short history lesson for you:

King Kamehameha Day was proclaimed in 1871 by King Kamehameha V, to honor his grandfather, King Kamehameha I. The first King Kamehameha Day was on June 11, 1872, and it was one of the first holidays to be proclaimed when Hawaii became a state in 1959. June 11, 2011 will be the 95th annual King Kamehameha Day in Hawaii.

The celebrations begin tomorrow, June 10, 2011, at Aliʻiōlani Hale in downtown Honolulu where there will be a lei draping ceremony honoring the great king at his statue along King St. (right across from I’olani Palace.)

Then on June 11, 2011, the 95th Annual Oahu King Kamehameha Day Parade will begin at 9am (beginning at King St.) until 12pm where it ends at Kapi’olani Park.  Once the parade ends there will be a feast of food, entertainment, and much more.

So, if you happen to be a Kama’aina or a tourist visiting Oahu during this two-day celebration why not stop by both events and enjoy!  Believe me, you will have fun.   🙂

Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Attend a Charity Gala Dinner

Well, if you haven’t heard by now Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a charity gala dinner in London, England this evening.

T.R.H.s Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias Attend a Meeting with the Board of Trustees from the ‘Principe de Asturias’ Foundation

On June 9, 2011, Their Royal Highnesses Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias held a meeting at El Pardo Palace in Madrid, Spain with the Board of Trustees from the Principe de Asturias Foundation.

According to the official website for the royal house of Spain, Casa de Su Majestad El Rey:

The Principe de Asturias Foundation was incorporated on September 24, 1980 in Oviedo, in a ceremony presided over by His Royal Highness the Prince of Asturias, who was accompanied by Their Majesties. Its primary objectives are to strengthen the links between the Principality and the Prince of Asturias, and contribute to the glorification and promotion of those values ​​scientific, cultural and humanistic values ​​universal heritage.

His Royal Highness The Prince of Asturias boasts its honorary president, while the vice president of honor is occupied by the President of the Principality of Asturias. Every year since 1981, grants the Prince of Asturias Award for distinguished scientific, technical, cultural, social and humanistic work performed by individuals, groups or institutions working internationally in the following eight categories: Communication and Humanities Social Sciences, Arts, Literature, Technical and Scientific Research, International Cooperation, Harmony and Sports.

As an entity totally private and nonprofit, the institution thrives on income from their assets and grants and donations they make every year, both members of their boards, as individuals or organizations that collaborate with it regular or circumstantially.

H.R.H. Princess Maxima of the Netherlands Attends the 8th Annual European Microfinance Network Conference

On June 9, 2011, H.R.H. Princess Maxima of the Netherlands attended the 8th Annual European Microfiance Network Conference in Amsterdam.  The event was held at the former Amsterdam Stock Exchange where attendees discussed various issues.  The main theme/topic at the conference, “Complementing microfinance with sustainable non-financial services, but who will pay the ferryman?” (source)

According to the site, European-Microfinance:

The Conference will be opened by H.R.H. Princess Maxima of the Netherlands in her capacity of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development, and Member of the Dutch Council on Microfinance.

… the intention of the conference is to be a meeting of minds, ideas and experiences.  [attendees] include EMN member organizations, speakers, and representatives of other insinuations active in the microfinance sector.

Sounds fascinating.
