Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands performed her last official engagement as queen this afternoon when she officially open the special exhibition entitled, Constantijn en Christiaan Huygens: Een Gouden Erfenis, at the Grote Kerk in Den Haag.
The exhibition, a private initiative of the Stichting Grote Kerk, Huygensmuseum Hofwijck and Koninklijke Bibliotheek, displays a:
“…combination of political history, art and science, the Huygens Exhibition shows the rewards of looking beyond established boundaries and embracing innovative thinking, the way father and son Huygens did. One of the highlights of the exhibition is the replica of the Oranjezaal in Huis ten Bosch. The architecture and the series of paintings of the Oranjezaal are the culmination of the Dutch arts during the Golden Age. Constantijn Huygens was actively involved in designing its structure.”
