On November 17, 2011, T.S.H.s Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco along with H.S.H. Princess Stephanie presented packages for the elderly within the principality of Monaco who are on the list of the Service for Social Action of the Monégasque. In other news, it was announced that Princess Charlene has pledged over one million Rand (the currency of South Africa) to the charity, Giving Trust Organization, in honor of Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s 80th birthday. According to a spokeswoman for the Giving Trust Organization, the princess who is a co-patron of the Trust, hoped her contribution would “…encourage the public and corporate sector to honour the Archbishop by donating to those in need.”
The Giving Trust Organization represents ten charities in South Africa. The donation was to be divided equally among them.
