This special event honors twenty-one “… emerging artists in theater, dance and film…” There are also two special awards handed out each year, the Prince Rainier III Award and Princess Grace Statue Award. Ms. Julie Andrews was presented with the Prince Rainier III Award for her “…outstanding contribution to motion picture, television and theater arts … [as well as for her] significant humanitarian contributions to their fields.” The recipient of the Princess Grace Statue Award was presented to Jon M. Chu.
During the awards gala Montblanc premiered the Princesse Grace de Monaco Collection which consists of:
… fine jewelry pieces, timepieces and writing instruments true to Princess Grace’s enduring style and sophistication. Feminine and elegant, the pieces from this collection are some of the most exquisite ever crafted in Montblanc’s Ateliers, rich in details and inspired by this icon’s spirit and attention to style.
The Gala began with cocktails, followed by a spectacular opening act; then a 3-course dinner catered by Cipriani 42nd Street; followed by the Awards presentations and finally, dancing to DJ Clockwork in the Chapel Room. Rufus Wainwright performed two Julie Andrews classics and sang “I Could Have Danced All Night” as a tribute to Julie Andrews. Montblanc Brand Ambassador and international rising opera star Shenyang wowed the crowd with a brilliant performance.
Anne Hathaway gave a moving speech in honor of her idol and The Princess Diaries co-star, Julie Andrews. Andrews got a standing ovation from the VIP crowd as she came onto stage to receive her award from H.S.H Prince Albert II.
