On Wednesday, March 9, 2022, Their Royal Highnesses Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg met with Ukrainian refugees, Iryna and her son, Yaroslav, at the Palais Grand-Ducal in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg.

According to the Cour Grand-Ducale during the meeting Iryna told her story of how she and her son fled Ukraine due to the ongoing conflict:

“…[Iryna and Yaroslav] boarded a crowded train which took them to the Hungarian border. [On the train there was an] Ukrainian woman who resides in Luxembourg who was returning home. Together, with three other compatriots, they reached Bratislava from where they flew to Charleroi thanks to the generosity of Luxembourg friends. From there, a car was waiting to take them back to the Grand Duchy.

During the meeting, Mrs. Anna Dolya, a representative from the LUkraine Association and Mr. Claude Radoux, Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Luxembourg gave an update on the situation in Ukraine. Faced with a humanitarian emergency, the Grand-Ducal Couple praised the enormous work and efforts of the associations mobilized in unison, without forgetting the numerous citizen actions of solidarity with the Ukrainians.”
