His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands Attends the Reopening of the Mauritshuis.

PrinceofOranjeOn Friday, June 27, 2014, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands attended the reopening of the newly renovated Mauritshuis in Den Haag.

According to RVD, the museum houses famous works by:

“…Dutch and Flemish painters of the Dutch Golden Age. Masterpieces include ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’ by Vermeer, ‘The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp’ by Rembrandt and ‘The Goldfinch’ Fabritius.

The core of the collection consists of paintings that were once owned by William V, Prince of Orange-Nassau. Before the Mauritshuis in 1822 became a public museum, among others the building served as the residence of Count Johan Maurits of Nassau Siegen, governor of the Dutch colony in Brazil.”
