On November 6, 2013, Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall began their nine-day visit to India and Sri Lanka.
According to Clarence House the royal couple:
“…were warmly welcomed back to India in an extraordinary sunset Aarti ceremony by the sacred River Ganges in the holy Hindu city of Rishikesh. Their Royal Highnesses crossed the River Ganges by boat, arriving at the Gita Bhavan landing stage near the Parmarth Ganga Ghat where the ceremony took place.
On arrival, The Prince and The Duchess were greeted by Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji Maharaj (known as “Swamiji”), President and Spiritual Head of Parmarth Niketan Ashram, and Sadhvi Bhagwati Saraswatiji, President of the Divine Shakti Foundation.
After taking part in the ceremony, which involved religious songs and a lively display of traditional lamps, The Prince spoke warmly about how much it meant to both himself and The Duchess to be visiting the Ganges.”
