On Saturday, November 9, 2013, Their Majesties continued their two-day visit to Moscow, Russia,  to celebrate the closing of the Nederland-Rusland Jaar (Netherlands-Russia Year) “…a year in which the Netherlands and Russia emphasize their long bilateral relations [through] a variety of economic, cultural and societal activities…” 

This afternoon the reigning couple visited the State Tretyakov Gallery where they viewed the exhibition, More than Romanticism.  The exhibition displays 52 works by:

“…Cornelius Kruzeman, still lifes of flowers by Johannes van Osa, and forest landscapes by Barend Cornelius Kukkuka. The works are profoundly characteristic of Dutch painting – particularly in their attention to detail.  

Masterpieces from the private collection of Rademakers and from one of the oldest museums in the Netherlands – the Teylers Museum in Harlem – which (like the State Tretyakov Gallery) has works which come from the private collection of a local merchant. These will be displayed in Moscow for the first time.

The Dutch paintings will be shown in conjunction with those of the best Russian artist of Romantic period – Tropinin, Kiprensky, Shchedrin, Vorobev and also earlier works by Ivan Aivazovsky.”

Their Majesties also participated in a meeting with Dutch and Russian business CEOs and CFOs.  Discussions focused on strengthening trade between the two countries.

In the evening, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima arrived at the Moscow P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory to attend a concert performed by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
