On September 10, 2013, Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium arrived in Wavre in the province of Walloon Brabant for a one-day visit.
Upon their arrival Their Majesties were greeted with applause and cheers from hundreds of locals, government officials and of course the Mayor of Wavre, Mr. Charles Michel.
During today’s visit King Philippe and Queen Mathilde attended a reception and a working luncheon held in their honor, visited the local town hall where they signed the Livre d’Or (Golden Book), completed a walkabout where they met with local residents, and of course touched the famous Maca statue for good luck.

On the morning of Tuesday, September 10, 2013, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands visited the Stichting Jarige Job in Rotterdam.
According to RVD, Stichting Jarige Job, a participant in the Oranje Fonds Groeiprogramma, creates birthday packages and sends them to children from poor families. Inside each of the packages there are streamers, treats, a cake and of course presents.
During his visit His Majesty met with representatives and volunteers of Stichting Jarige Job and toured the packaging facility.

On September 9, 2013, Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain met with the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, at the United Nations in New York City where she was presented with the Franklin D. Roosevelt International Disability Award. Her Majesty accepted this prestigious award on behalf of Spain.
According to the official website for the United Nations prior to the acceptance of the award Her Majesty and Mr. Ban Ki-moon held a meeting where they discussed the:
“…upcoming High-level meeting of the General Assembly on disability and development scheduled on 23 September 2013. They also discussed the need to accelerate implementation of the Millennium Development Goals and the crafting of a post-2015 development agenda.
The Secretary-General took this opportunity to inform Queen Sofia of the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Syria and of UN efforts to address this critical situation.”

Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias recently expressed his disappointment during a press conference after Madrid lost their bid to host the upcoming 2020 Summer Olympic Games. As you may or may not know by now Tokyo was the winner in the end.
Nevertheless, Prince Felipe also expressed his pride in the committee that supported Madrid’s candidacy. Moreover, the prince is proud that Madrid — and Spain in general — is a strong supporter of sports and the Olympics and will continue to do so in the future.
On Friday, September 6, 2013, Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia accompanied by His Royal Highness Hereditary Prince Peter of Serbia and Her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth of Serbia hosted the opening of “24 Hours of Elegance: Concours d’Elegance & Luxury Salon” held at the White Palace in Belgrade.

On Monday, September 9, 2013, Her Royal Highness Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands arrived at the Efteling in Kaatsheuvel to attend the opening of the 9th Edition of Alfabetisering Week (Literacy Week).
The lovely princess is Chairman of the Stichting Lezen & Schrijven (Reading and Writing Foundation).
