On February 1, 2013, Their Royal Highnesses Prince Willem-Alexander of Oranje and Princess Maxima of the Netherlands accompanied by Prince Maurtis and Princess Marilène, Prince Bernhard and Princess Annette, Princess Margriet and Professor Pieter van Vollenhoven, Princess Mabel as well as employees of the Dutch royal house and distinguished guests gathered together at the Beatrix Theater in Utrecht to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands 75th birthday.
On January 31, 2013, Her Royal Highness Princess Marie of Denmark was at the Kongelige Danske Videnskabernes Selskab (Royal Danish Academy of Sciences) in Copenhagen to present the UNESCO and L’Oréal Denmark scholarships to woman in science.
According to the Danish royal court the scholarships:
“…for Women in Science was created by L’Oréal Denmark with the support of the Danish National Commission for UNESCO and the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences. The grants are intended to encourage women to pursue their scientific careers after they have obtained their PhD.”
The goal is to create a better balance between women and men in the world of research, because an equal distribution of the sexes creates more diverse approaches, more dynamic and thus better research.”
On February 1, 2013, Her Royal Highness Princess Letizia of Asturias participated in the opening of the 2nd Meeting on Enfermedades Raras y Discapacidad (Rare Diseases and Disabilities) held at the Teatre Principal de Maó in Mahón. The princess is Honorary President of the Federación Española de Enfermedades Raras (FEDER).
