In Friday’s edition of the German newspaper, Coburger Tageblatt, there is an article regarding Their Highnesses Hereditary Prince Hubertus and Hereditary Princess Kelly of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha). Recently, the couple moved from New York City to the prince’s home in Coburg, Germany (rough translation):
Change of leadership for Prince Hubertus of Saxe -Coburg and Gotha has moved with his wife Kelly from New York City to Coburg. As of 1 January, the 36-year-old has taken over from his father, the head of the ducal administration Foundation.
The contrast could hardly be greater between the mega-metropolis of New York City and the more contemplative Coburg. But, Prince Hubertus of Saxe – Coburg and Gotha acts not only as if he is quite happy to return to his hometown, ‘This return is indeed not for any job,’ says the 36-year-old. No, he was allowed to first January 2012 to take from his father, Prince Andreas, the head of the Foundation, the Duke of Saxe-Coburg und Gotha family. ‘This is now the place for me at the right time,’ said Hubert, who has spent five years in New York City where he met his wife Kelly, whom he married in 2009.
‘The move for my wife was easy,” says Prince Hubertus. He adds that Kelly likes the city very much, ‘She loves Coburg!’ For as “fascinating” New York so is Coburg which is incredibly charming.
It had always been Kelly’s request, as Hubert says, to one day live in Europe, in a non-English speaking country. So now it’s become Germany, and indeed Coburg. But in the event that the city-pair normal times in the fortress city of the ceiling falling on their heads, they have also rented an apartment in Munich. ‘We have many friends there…’ said Prince Hubertus, ‘and we do not always sleep in the hotel when we visit them.’
Munich is also near Austria, and there the foundation also owns land for which is now Prince Hubertus is responsible for. ‘I know all of our territories…’ he says, yet he will go the same next week to Grein. So to speak, for a courtesy visit in his new role. The following week is comprised of the former ducal forest enterprises in Thüringen.
In total, the area in which the Duke of Coburg House operates forestry, around 19 000 hectares, 15 000 hectares are forested. ‘I am glad that our core business is forestry..’ says Hubertus. As a plant forests are very well liked , “…because wood is a very solid and sustainable product!’
