Upcoming Royal Events for April 2011

Now that the month of March is almost over, I thought I would give you, the lovely readers of TRC, a brief look as to what royal events will happen during the month of April.  To say that the upcoming month is a big one is an understatement.     🙂

Also, I made a small list of the upcoming royal and princely weddings beginning with that small and otherwise unknown marriage ceremony between some dude named Prince William and his fiancée, Catherine Middleton.

H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and Charlene Wittstock to Visit Ireland

It was announced this afternoon that H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and his fiancée, Charlene Wittstock, will visit the lovely country of Ireland starting on April 4 – 6, 2011.

The couple will visit Dublin and Galway to “…mark the 50th anniversary of the visit (to Ireland) of his late parents, H.S.H. Prince Rainier III and H.S.H. Princess Grace.” (The Journal.ie)

According to the Irish newspaper, Drogheda Independent:

Officials said the programme for the visit will reflect the long-standing ties between Ireland and Monaco and will underline the potential for future co-operation in the areas of business, the environment, research, education, tourism and culture.

President Mary McAleese and her husband Dr Martin McAleese will formally welcome Prince Albert to Ireland and will host a state dinner in his honour.

He will also have meetings with Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Environment Minister Phil Hogan, Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney and the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Gerry Breen.

During his time in Ireland, the Prince will visit Trinity College in Dublin, tour the redeveloped Docklands area in the city, and the Irish Marine Institute in Oranmore, County Galway.

He will also inaugurate an exhibition in honour of the late Princess Grace at Farmleigh House, where he will host a reception to highlight Irish literature and art.

Prince Albert will be accompanied by a delegation from the Monaco Chamber of Economic Development during certain events.

Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Crown Princess Maxima of the Netherlands in Vietnam

Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Crown Princess Maxima of the Netherlands are currently in Vietnam for an official visit.  The couple’s schedule is a hectic yet interesting one. The purpose of the visit, according to the official website for the Dutch royal house:

The visit is aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries, with emphasis on economic cooperation. Vietnam is an emerging market in a dynamic region, where opportunities for the Netherlands. In the trade mission are the water, delta technology, agro technology, maritime, oil and gas and transportation and logistics center.

Their first stop will be Hanoi where they will meet with various business men, local dignitaries, and of course the President of Vietnam, Nguyen Minh Triet.  Discussions will be about economics, agriculture, and much more.  Then the couple will travel to Ho Chi Minh City.  The visit will end on March 31, 2011.

Weekly Video News and Activities With All Your Favorite Royals

Once again here is the royal weekly wrap-up from the Dutch program, Blauw Bloed.  In this segment the series covers the Monaco Rose Ball, Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan, H.R.H. Crown Prince Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, Princess Laurentein of the Netherlands, Princess Marilene and Prince Maurits of the Netherlands, Princess Margriet of the Netherlands, and finally a special segment about Crown Princess Maxima.  The latter segment is pretty good and includes interviews with the Princess that I have never seen before.

Also, Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Crown Princess Maxima are currently in Vietnam for an official state visit which begins tomorrow, March 28 and ends on March 31, 2011.  The royal couple will visit Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.  More information about this official visit will be posted tomorrow so please stay tuned.  🙂

 

Another Royal Couple to Attend the British Royal Wedding

The Belgian royal court recently announced that Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Philippe and Crown Princess Mathilde of Belgium will attend the upcoming British royal wedding on April 29, 2011.

H.S.H. Princess Grace of Monaco: Her Last Interview and A French Documentary About Her Life

On June 22, 1982, the American television program, 20/20, interviewed H.S.H. Princess Grace of Monaco two and a half months before her death on September 14, 1982.

This in-depth interview with journalist Pierre Salinger is quite interesting to say the least.  The late Princess discussed her life in Monaco, her family, the United States, her friends, her movie career, and much, much more.

Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain in Athens, Greece

Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain was in Greece yesterday to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the arrival of troops of the Crown of Aragon to the Duchy of Athens.

According to Casa de su Majestad el Rey (the official website for the Spanish royal house), Her Majesty Queen Sofia had a full schedule in front of her on day One:

 

In the morning, Her Majesty visited the Acropolis along with Miguel Fuertes, and the director of the Institute Cervantes, Carmen Caffarel, Toured the Proplylaea, the latest restoration of the Parthenon and the Temple of Athena Nike.
In the afternoon, Her Majesty accompanied by the director of the Cervantes Institute, and Institute director Cervantes in Athens, Eusebi Ayensa, chaired the opening of the exhibition ‘A Sea of Laws’ in the Institute headquarters of the Greek capital, Athens.
This exhibition, organized with the European Institute Mediterranean, reflecting on the formation of the cultural legacies in the Mediterranean, showing that beyond the violence, others forms of interaction between the peoples have left a long legacy more peaceful and lasting as in the case of imprint of the Catalan legal tradition in navigation and trade.  The exhibition comprises of books, documents, and items from the 14th to the 16th centuries that reflect the cultural and diplomatic relations between Spain and Greece during this period.
