On Friday, June 19, 2015, Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands opened the exhibition, Design Derby: Nederland-België (1815-2015), at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam.
Curated by Ms. Mienke Simon Thomas, Senior Curator of Applied Art and Design, Mr. Frank Huygens, Head of Research at Design Museum Ghent, the exhibition is a:
“…retrospective of Dutch and Belgian design over the past 200 years. Five hundred objects will be on show from the two neighbouring countries, varying from silver, glass, ceramics and posters to furniture, fashion and cars. The objects will be presented next to each other, in chronological order. At each moment of the time-line from 1815 to 2015, the visitor can see the most interesting items from the Netherlands and what Belgium, in turn, considered as exemplary at this juncture.”
Design Derby: Nederland-België (1815-2015) will be open to the public on June 20 – September 13, 2015. Thereafter, the exhibition will move to the Design Museum Ghent beginning on October 23, 2015 – February 14, 2016.
