On December 23, 2012, His Imperial Majesty Emperor Akihito of Japan celebrated his 79th birthday. This morning the Emperor, along with Her Imperial Majesty Empress Michiko as well as other members of the Imperial family, made a balcony appearance at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo where thousands of well-wishers gathered to wish the Emperor a very happy birthday.
