It seems that His Royal Highness the Duke of York is in hot water, again. According to the British newspaper, Telegraph, the second son of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is being criticized for taking a luxurious private jet to Mumbai, India to visit some of the nation’s poorest areas. The cost “…of his travel[s] around the country has been estimated at £80,000.”

On Monday, May 7, 2012, His Royal Highness Prince Philippe of Belgium was at the Université Libre de Bruxelles to attend the inaugural lecture of the Chaire Internationale d’Histoire de la seconde Guerre Mondiale (International Chair of History of the Second World War) as well as to participate in presenting the Prix Baron Velge 2012 (Baron Velge Prize 2012).
According to the official website for the Université Libre de Bruxelles the International Chair of History of the Second World War is:
…organized by the faculty of Philosophy and Letters through the generosity of the late Baron Jean-Charles Velge who died on May 29, 2010, to honor the memory of Mr. Jean Vanwelkenhuyzen, a historian of the Second World War. Each year a researcher is invited to come to the University to give a series of lectures to students and faculty about the Second World War...source
The recipient of the Prix Baron Velge 2012 goes to author and Yale University professor of History, Mr. Timothy Snyder. In 2010, Professor Snyder published the critically acclaimed book, Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin. Afterward, the professor will give a series of lectures at the Université Libre de Bruxelles until May 11, 2012.

On May 5, 2012, Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, accompanied by German President, Mr. Joachim Gauck, attended a concert on the river of Amstel to celebrate National Liberation Day.
According to NRC.nl the concert was:
… moderated by the Noord Nederlands Orkest (North Dutch Orchestra) led by Swiss conductor, Michel Tabachnik. Soloists included Guus Meeuwis, Sabrina Starke and mezzo-soprano Karin Strobos. Students from the Fontys Dance Academy and the Lucia Marthas Dance Academy of Tilburg participated in the event.

Her Royal Highness Princess Caroline of Hanover attended the 45th Concours International de Bouquets held at the Terrasses du Casino de Monte-Carlo in Monaco on May 5, 2012. This year’s theme is entitled, The Gardens. The annual event is organized by the Garden Club de Monaco and chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Caroline.

His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco met with the crew members of PlanetSolar at the port of Monaco on May 5, 2012.
The crew just completed a round the world trip in a massive solar-powered catamaran. So, how long did it take to sail around the world? Only 584 fun-filled days. 🙂
