H.R.H. Prince Willem-Alexander of Oranje to Attend Playwright and Czech Ex-President Vaclav Havel

It was announced that His Royal Highness Prince Willem-Alexander of Oranje (representing Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands) along with and Minister Rosenthal will attend the funeral of playwright and Czech ex-president Vaclav Havel on Friday, December 23, 2011 in Prague.

Mr. Havel died on Sunday at age 75 after a long illness. The state funeral, which will be held at the historic Saint Vitus Cathedral, will also be attended by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, United States Secretary Hillary Clinton, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and Israeli President Shimon Peres according to AFP News.

Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands Attends a Concert

On December 15, 2011, Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands attended a concert held at the Agora Theatre in Lelystad in honor of Kingdom Day.

The purpose of the concert aims to demonstrate the connection between the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. The hosts for the event were the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations and the city of Lelystad.

Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and Family Attend the Prince Claus Award in Amsterdam

On December 14, 2011, Her Majesty Queen Beatrix, Prince Willem-Alexander, Princess Maxima, Princess Laurentien, Prince Constantijn , Princess Mabel, and Prince Friso attended the 2011 Prince Claus Award held at the Royal Palace on Dam Square in Amsterdam.  The top award went to Ntone Edjabe, the founder ofthe Pan-African magazine, Chimurenga.

Chimurenga, meaning “Freedom Struggle”, is an online magazine that focuses on art, culture and politics. The Prince Claus Awards are presented by the Prince Claus Fund for Culture and Development since 1997, awarded annually to artists, thinkers and cultural organizations, particularly in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.

H.R.H. Prince Willem-Alexander of Oranje Celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Dutch Lotto

On December 12, 2011, H.R.H. Prince Willem-Alexander of Oranje celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Dutch Lotto held at the World Forum Theatre in Den Haag.

Since its inception in 1961 the Dutch Lotto has given away more than 1.3 billion Euros to over 19 charities including the Prince Bernhard Cultural Fund.

H.R.H. Princess Maxima of the Netherlands Attends the Closing Ceremony “Thousand and One Force”

On December 9, 2011, H.R.H. Princess Maxima of the Netherlands was in Utrecht to attend the closing ceremony of the project Thousand and One Force.  This event, organized by Movisie, encourages local organizations and ethnic minority women to actively participate in society.

H.R.H. Prince Willem-Alexander of Oranje Opens a New Factory

On December 8, 2011, H.R.H. Prince Willem-Alexander of Oranje along with Mr. Komori, the CEO of Fujifilm Corporation opened a new factory in Tilburg, Netherlands.  During the opening ceremony the heir to the Dutch throne along with Mr. Komori left their footprints in green clay then toured the new eco-friendly factory.
