On Friday, April 8, 2022, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall’s Reading Room announced the first book for Season 6: The Kite Runner. I loved this novel! If you haven’t had a chance to read this amazing story, I highly recommend that you do.

Originally published in 2003 by Mr. Khaled Hosseini — and made into a film in 2007 — The Kite Runner tells the story of the unlikely friendship between a wealthy boy and the son of his father’s servant:

“…the novel is a beautifully crafted story set in a country that is in the process of being destroyed. It is about the power of reading, the price of betrayal, and the possibility of redemption; and an exploration of the power of fathers over sons—their love, their sacrifices, their lies.

A sweeping story of family, love, and friendship told against the devastating backdrop of the history of Afghanistan over the last thirty years, The Kite Runner is an unusual and powerful novel that has become a beloved, one-of-a-kind classic.”

If haven’t heard about The Duchess of Cornwall’s Reading Room, which launched on Instagram in January 2021, is a “…literary hub on a mission to help readers and non-readers alike find and connect with books they will love. Through exclusive author interviews and behind-the-scenes content, The Reading Room celebrates books from around the world and the extraordinary people who create them.”

Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall and Catherine Middleton: Together at Last

No, they are not having an affair, but they did have lunch together on February 9, 2011.

According to the Richard Kay, a reporter from the Daily Mail, Britain’s future Queens dined at a new restaurant at the Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge.  Catherine wore her hideous trademark black suede books, beige blazer (another trademark… freaking blazers), black tights, a patterned dress, and a globs of black eyeliner (another trademark.)  While Camilla wore a purple plaid number that made everyone dizzy when they looked at her outfit.  Apparently, Catherine’s sister, Pippa, joined the cuddly lunch along with Camilla’s daughter, Laura.

It is unknown what the group talked about during their time together; however, according to the Daily Mail:

A fellow sitting just two tables away, tells me: ‘All four women were talking away like mad and none of the waiters could get a word in edgeways to serve their lunch.

I heard Camilla saying…  ‘if I can give you one bit of advice…’ Kate was really enjoying the moment.

‘I did hear talk of trumpets and someone said ‘we can’t have trumpets, the ceiling is too high’’, which may have been a reference to Westminster Abbey.’

Student Protesters Attack HRH Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall’s Car

If you haven’t heard by now university tuition rates in the United Kingdom will triple thanks to British Parliament who approved of this controversial plan.

Unfortunately, HRH Prince Charles and his wife Camilla’s car was attacked this evening by demonstrators angry over this rate hike.  The royal couple were attending the Royal Variety Performance on December 9, “… in aid of the Entertainment Artistes Benevolent Fund.” Thankfully, they and others were not injured.

According to CNN International:

The demonstrators broke a window and tossed paint on the car, however neither royal family member was injured in the attack.

‘We can confirm that their Royal Highnesses’ car was attacked by protesters on the way to their engagement at the London Palladium this evening,” a spokesman for the prince said. “Their Royal Highnesses are unharmed.”

The attack followed a vote in the House of Commons to approve a plan to raise the existing cap on tuition rates charged by universities from £3,000 to £9,000. In U.S. dollars, that’s a nearly $10,000 increase — from roughly $4,700 to $14,000. Lawmakers approved the plan in a 323-302 vote.

The measure awaits approval by the House of Lords and a signature by the queen before it can become law.
