H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco Visits the Aquarium de San Sebastián (VIDEOS)

H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco visited the Aquarium de San Sebastián in Spain on Friday, November 25, 2011.

Upon his arrival the prince was greeted by the president of the aquarium, the deputy of the Government in Gipuzkoa, Pedro Luis Rio, the Basque Minister of Culture, Blanca Urgell, and the speaker of the City of San Sebastian, Joshua Ruiz.

Following the unveiling of a commemorative plaque in the lobby, the prince placed a wreath below a portrait of his grandfather, Albert I of Monaco.  Then he signed the book of honor and toured the aquarium.  Afterward,  Prince Albert II visited the Balenciaga Museum which displays four gowns designed by Balenciaga for his mother, Princess Grace.  The designs were given to the museum in 2003.  After viewing the exhibit Prince Albert told reporters that his visit to the museum was “…very emotional…”

H.R.H. Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg Attends the 2011 Edward Steichen Award

On November 24, 2011, H.R.H. Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg attended the 2011 Edward Steichen Award held a the Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean. This award, established in 2004, the  is a tribute to the life an work of photographer and painter, Edward Steichen:

The prize honors Steichen’s artistic achievements as a photographer and curator as well as his commitment to advocating the arts and nurturing new talent. source

H.M. Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands Attends the 50th Anniversary of the University of Twente

Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands was at the University of Twente in Enschede to celebrate their 50th anniversary on Friday, November 25, 2011.

During the celebration ceremony the queen, along with hundreds of people, listened to a lecture by Dr. Clemens van Blitterswijk.   Also during the ceremony several honorary doctorates were presented to those for being fabulous. Those who received the honor included Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman from the television show, MythBusters, and Professors W. Knoll, H. Nowotny and H. Termeer.

T.R.H.s Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias Visit the Paranal Observatory of ESO (European Organization for Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere) in Cerro Paranal, Chile

On November 24, 2011, T.R.H.s Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias visited the Paranal Observatory of ESO (European Organization for Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere) in Cerro Paranal, Chile.

Once inside the facility speeches were made, including one regarding the construction of the European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT), and soon the royal couple toured the amazing observatory.  Afterward, the prince and princess attended a lunch held at the residence of the astronomers who work at the ESO.

When asked what he thought about his visit to the facility Prince Felipe replied, “I can not express my enthusiasm for what we have seen and heard: I admit that astronomy is a hobby for me very dear…”  The prince also noted “…the importance of the E-ELT: ‘Spain has, of course, a great interest in the E-ELT … Our industries are very active in the design and manufacture of prototypes for the E-ELT telescope, are fully prepared and excited regarding this project.’ ”

H.R.H. Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg Attends a Conference

On November 24, 2011, H.R.H. Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg was at the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg to participate in the Développement et Promotion de l’Economie Solidaire au Service du Développement Durable à Luxembourg conference (whew! Long title.)

Any way, during the event the lovely grand duchess gave a speech as part of the

…submission of a development plan in Luxembourg to support the Solidarity Economy in the context of a discussion conducted in consultation with various industry representatives, with experts and academics.
