HRH Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands Attends the 2013 European Inventor Awards. (VIDEO)

EIA2013Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands arrived at the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam this afternoon to attend the 2013 European Inventor Awards organized and presented by the European Patent Office.  These awards “…honors outstanding inventors for their contribution to social, economic and technological progress.”

Per the European Patent Office the recipients of the 2013 European Inventor Awards: 

“The Research Award went to Mr. Patrick Couvreur, Ms. Barbara Stella, Ms. Véronique Rosilio, Mr. Luigi Cattel, from Paris-Sud University, for their invention of nano-capsules.

The Industry Award went to Mr. Claus Hämmerle and Mr. Klaus Brüstle, from Austrian manufacturer Julius Blum, for their invention of a damper system for soft closing of furniture doors, drawers and wall cabinets called ‘Blumotion’.

The Lifetime Achievement award went to Mr. Martin Schadt, of Switzerland, inventor of the world’s first flat-panel liquid crystal display, better known as LCD, which has paved the way for the low-energy devices, such as flat screens, tablet computers and mobile phones, now used by millions of people worldwide.

The Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Award went to Mr. Pål Nyrén of Sweden, for inventing pyrosequencing ─ a far faster, less complicated and cheaper method of sequencing DNA strands.

The Popular Prize Award went to Mr. José Luis López Gómez of Spain, whose invention to use a unique ‘independent guided’ wheel design rather than a standard axle on high-speed passenger trains makes those trains some of the most comfortable and safe in the industry.

The Non-European Countries Award went to Mr. Ajay V Bhatt, Mr. Bala Sudarshan Cadambi, Mr. Jeff Morris, Mr. Shaun Knoll, Ms. Shelagh Callahan, from the US, for creating and developing the industry standard Universal Serial Bus (USB) technology.”

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall Visits Paris, France: Day Two (VIDEOS)

On Tuesday, May 28, 2013, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall continued her two-day official visit to Paris, France.  This morning the lovely duchess visited the headquarters of the legendary fashion house, Dior, where she met with creative director, Mr. Raf Simons, and was given a private tour of the of the facility by the CEO of Dior, Mr. Sidney Toledano.

The Duchess of Cornwall also met with various individuals participating in the “…Help for Heroes Paris to London charity bike race…”, toured the Louvre, watched a military ceremony as well as “…an equine presentation…” by the Garde Républicaine at their headquarters, and much more.

HRH Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway Participates in a Roundtable Discussion. (VIDEO

On the afternoon of Tuesday, May 28, 2013, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway participated in a roundtable discussion entitled, Women’s Health, during the first full-day of the 3rd Women Deliver Global Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Participants in today’s discussion included the Director of Women and Health Initiative at Harvard School of Public Health, Dr. Ana Langer, the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Foundation, Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin, the Vice President and Medical Director of the nonprofit international health organization, Jhpiego, Dr. Harshad Sanghvi, and CEO of Global Health Corps, Ms. Barbara Bush.

The purpose of the 3rd Women Deliver Global Conference is to “…serve as a global platform for ensuring that the health and rights of girls and women remain top priorities on the global population and development agenda.”

Another Day. Another Exhibit. Another Inauguration for Their Royal Highnesses Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias. (VIDEO)

Their Royal Highnesses Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias arrived at Sala Hipóstila at the Biblioteca Nacional in Madrid this afternoon to view the new exhibition entitled, La Transición en Tinta China.

Curated by Professor Francisco J.B. de la Peña from the Universidad Complutense, the exhibit displays over 200 works by 80 different cartoonists.  Yes, cartoonists.  According to various sources La Transición en Tinta China:

“…takes a historic look at the period of the political transition in Spain through the works of some of the leading cartoonists of the day. From the years before the death of Franco, cartoonists, through new publications, stretch the limits of censorship and offer their readers the fruit of their expressive talent and his satirical wit.

What was the vision of these artists on the political transition? What contributed to it? This is the account that offers exposure in this exhibit which will be open to the public until August 25, 2013.”

News Regarding Members of the Imperial Family of Japan. (VIDEOS)

Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan arrived at the Tottori Hanakairo Flower Park in Nanbu yesterday afternoon to participate in a “…tree planting ceremony.”  

According to the Mainichi News, the emperor planted a planted red pine and quercus serrata saplings, while the empress planted Japanese bird cherry and Japanese dogwood.”

Meanwhile in Tokyo, Their Imperial Highnesses Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako of Japan “…attended a ceremony at [the] Gakushuin Kindergarten to commemorate the reconstruction and reopening in 1963 of the kindergarten which was destroyed in 1945 during World War II…”

HRH Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden Presents an Award.

VictoriaofSwedenHer Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden arrived at the Stockholm  Concert Hall to attend the 2013 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) ceremony.  The ALMA is one of the “…biggest international children’s and young adult literature award[s] in the world.”

During today’s event the heir to the Swedish throne presented the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award to writer and artist, Miss Marisol Misenta.  For more information about today’s event please click here.  

His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands in Den Haag.

WAKingOn Monday, May 27, 2013, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands arrived in Den Haag to participate in the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

The ICTY is a:

“…United Nations court of law dealing with war crimes that took place during the conflicts in the Balkans in the 1990’s. Since its establishment in 1993 it has irreversibly changed the landscape of international humanitarian law and provided victims an opportunity to voice the horrors they witnessed and experienced.”
