His Royal Highness Prince Johan Friso of Oranje-Nassau Has Passed Away. (VIDEOS)

FrisoIt was announced this morning via RVD/ HKH that His Royal Highness Prince Johan Friso of Oranje-Nassau, son of Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands and His Royal Highness the late Prince Claus of the Netherlands, has passed away.  He was 44 years old.

Per RVD/HKH:

“His Majesty the King announces with deep regret that His Royal Highness Prince Johan Friso Bernhard Christiaan David, Prins van Oranje-Nassau, Jonkheer van Amsberg passed away this morning at Palace Huis ten Bosch in the Hague.

Prince Friso has died of complications related to the hypoxic brain injury, which he suffered as the result of his skiing accident in Lech, Austria on 17 February 2012.

Following initial treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Innsbruck University Hospital, Prince Friso was transferred in early March 2012 to the Wellington hospital in London, his place of residence. In November 2012, Prince Friso begun showing signs of limited awareness (‘minimal consciousness’) and remained in that state since then.

In early July 2013, he was transferred to Palace Huis ten Bosch in The Hague, the Netherlands. 

The Royal Family wholeheartedly thanks all persons who have looked after Prince Friso for their excellent and devoted care.”

Prince Johan Friso leaves behind his wife, Her Royal Highness Princess Mabel of Oranje-Nassau, and their two daughters, Countess Emma Luana and Countess Joanna Zaria. 

Funeral arrangements for the late Prince Johan Friso are pending at this time.

My deepest condolences to Princess Mabel and her daughters and to the entire Dutch royal family.

His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain Meets With Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy in Mallorca. (VIDEO)

On August 9, 2013, His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain welcomed the Prime Minister of Spain, Mr. Mariano Rajoy, to the Palacio de Marivent in Palma on the island of Mallorca to hold a meeting.

After their meeting, His Majesty and Prime Minister Rajoy briefly met with the press, and then attended a luncheon in which His Royal Highness Prince Felipe  of Asturias was also present.

Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex Attends the Sovereign’s Parade at RMAS.

WESSEXOn Friday, August 9, 2013, Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex arrived at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) to represent Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during the Sovereign’s Parade.

Per the official website for the British Army:

“The Sovereign’s Parade, at the end of each term, marks the passing out from Sandhurst of Officer Cadets who have completed the Commissioning Course and is the result of many hours of hard work. It is the grandest day in the Sandhurst calendar as friends, family and VIPs gather before Old College Square to watch the cadets take part in their final challenge.  

During the ceremony, the Sword of Honour, the Overseas Sword and the Queen’s Medal are awarded by the Sovereign’s Representative to the top Officer Cadets.”

Their Highnesses Prince Andreas and Hereditary Prince Hubertus of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha Honor Members of the Schützengesellschaft Coburg.

On Tuesday, July 30, 2013, His Highness Prince Andreas of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha accompanied by his son, His Highness Hereditary Prince Hubertus of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, attended a ceremonial dinner honoring two longtime members of the Schützengesellschaft Coburg (Shooting Club Coburg).  The club was established in 1354, but the handwritten register of its members dates from the year 1710 to the present.

Anyway, during last month’s dinner Prince Andreas awarded the Protektoratsabzeichen (protectorate badge) of the Schützengesellschaft Coburg to Mr. Detlef Zöllner who is responsible for the protection of the handwritten register.  Prince Andreas also honored Mr. Reinhold Rau for his longtime membership — 60 years — and dedication to the Schützengesellschaft Coburg.
