It was announced by the Danish royal court that His Serene Highness Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg — husband of Her Royal Highness Princess Benedikte of Denmark — had an operation this morning for “…an aorta aneurysm…”
The emergency surgery took place at the Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen and was performed by Dr. Ulf Helgstrand. At this time Prince Richard is recovering and will remain in the hospital for the next few days.
On Thursday, December 5, 2013, His Royal Highness Prince Laurent of Belgium officially opened Plan Froid in Brussels.
Supported by the Fondation Prince Laurent Plan Froid provides homeless people and their pets a place to stay during the cold winters in the city of Brussels. The shelter contains warm beds, heaters, bathrooms, and showers.

On December 5, 2013, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall visited Emmaus Hastings and Rother (EHR) in Hastings, England. According to the official website for EHR the community:
“…provides a home and meaningful work for 15 people who have experienced homelessness. Companions, as the residents at Emmaus are known, live on site in purpose-built housing and work in the charity’s social enterprise, a shop selling second-hand furniture and other donated items, and a recently opened café.”

On the morning of December 5, 2013, His Majesty King Philippe of Belgium visited the headquarters of l’Etat-Major de la Défense (General Staff of the Defense) in Evere.
During today’s visit His Majesty toured the operations center and was briefed about the activities of the Belgian Armed Forces at home as well as aboard.
On Thursday, December 5, 2013, Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan continued their visit to Chennai, India.
This morning the imperial couple visited the Guindy National Park where they were warmly welcomed by hundreds of locals eager to see the emperor and empress.
Thereafter, the imperial couple visited the Tamil Nadu welfare association for the disabled according to Kyodo News.
On Wednesday, December 4, 2013, His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan arrived in Brussels, Belgium for a visit.
Today, His Majesty attended a luncheon meeting at the Palais de Bruxelles with His Majesty King Philippe of Belgium. During the luncheon the two kings discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, the Syrian crisis and ways to strengthen bilateral ties between Jordan and Belgium.
His Majesty King Abdullah II also visited the headquarters of the European Council. Whilst there His Majesty held a meeting with the President of the European Council, Mr. Herman van Rompuy, and with the President of the European Commission, Mr. José Barroso.
