On April 1, 2014, Their Majesties King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia of Spain accompanied by Their Royal Highnesses Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias and Her Royal Highness Infanta Elena of Spain presided over the delivery of the Gran Cruz de la Real Orden del Mérito Deportivo to paralympic swimmer, Ms. María Teresa Perales Fernández, at Palacio de la Zarzuela in Madrid.
Ms. Fernández received the award in “…recognition of her outstanding sporting career as an example of overcoming and effort…” according to the Spanish royal court.

On Tuesday, April 1, 2014, Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium accompanied by the President of China, Mr. Xi Jingping, and First Lady Xi Peng Liyuan, visited the Volvo Cars manufacturing plant in Ghent.
Whilst there Their Majesties and their guests met with the President of Volvo Cars, Mr. Hakan Samuelsson, employees of Volvo Cars, and toured the manufacturing facility.
Thereafter, Their Majesties and President Jingping and First Lady Xi Peng Liyuan arrived in the beautiful city of Bruges. Whilst there the reigning couple and their guests visited the Collège d’Europe where President Jinping gave a speech.

On Tuesday, April 1, 2014, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark accompanied by representatives from the Mary Fonden and the Red Barnet Fri for Mobberi (Free from Bullying) arrived in Tallinn, Estonia, for a two-day visit.
According to the Danish royal court, the purpose of the trip is to visit with the Fri for Mobberi, “…an anti-bullying campaign now established in several kindergartens and schools in Estonia…”
The day began with a visit to the Suitsupääsupesa Lasteaed kindergarten where the lovely crown princess met with staff, teachers, and students who were happy to meet the future queen of Denmark.
Thereafter, Crown Princess Mary attended the opening of the Danish King’s Garden as well as presided over the opening of the exhibition entitled, A Modern Royal Household, at the Tallinn City Museum.
In the evening, the crown princess accompanied by her delegation attended a reception held in her honor and hosted by the Mayor of Tallinn, Mr. Edgar Savisaar, at the Tallinn Town Hall. Soon, the crown princess was off to Kadriorg Palace where she met with the President of Estonia, Mr. Toomas Hendrik Ilves, and his wife, Mrs. Evelin Ilves.
