On April 23, 2014, Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan arrived at the National Theatre of Japan to attend the 2014 Japan Prize awards ceremony.
According to the official website for the Japan Prize the award is presented “…annually to scientists and engineers from around the world who have made significant contributions to the advancement of science and technology, thereby furthering the cause of peace and prosperity of mankind.”
The winners of the 2014 Japan Prize went to Dr. Yasuharu Suematsu from the Tokyo Institute of Technology and Dr. C. David Allis from Rockefeller University.
Dr. Yasuharu Suematsu received the award for his “…pioneering research on semiconductor lasers for high-capacity long-distance optical fiber communication.” While Dr. C. David Allis received the award for his “…discovery of histone modifications as fundamental regulators of gene expression.”
On the morning of April 23, 2014, Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of Belgium arrived at the Palais des Académies in Brussels to preside over the 2014 Prix InBev-Baillet Latour de la Santé (InBev-Baillet Latour Awards for Health and Clinical Research).
On Wednesday, April 23, 2014, Their Majesties King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia of Spain arrived at the Universidad de Alcalá in Alcalá de Henares to attend the Premio Cervantes 2013.
During today’s ceremony His Majesty presented the award to famed Mexican writer and journalist, Ms. Elena Poniatowska.
On Wednesday, April 23, 2014, Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands arrived at the Erasmus Medisch Centrum in Rotterdam to attend the 1000th language course for Hago Care cleaners according to RVD.
During today’s event Her Majesty presented certificates to those who completed the course.

Today, the royal couple visited the city of Adelaide. Whilst there the duke and duchess visited the Northern Sound System youth music community center, visited the Playford Civic Center, unveiled a plaque at Prince George Plaza, and attended a “…reception co-hosted by the Governor of South Australia and the Acting Premier of South Australia…” according to Clarence House.

On Tuesday, April 22, 2014, Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan arrived at the University of Jordan in Amman to witness His Highness Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz al Saud recieve an honorary doctorate in International Business.
According to Petra News, the prince received the “…degree in recognition of his regional and international efforts in the fields of business, economic development, administration, tourism and media”
