Recently, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco was nominated to take part in the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Ice Bucket Challenge, by Mr. Eddie Jordan and Mr. Brian O’Driscoll, which raises awareness for the ALS. According to the official website for the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association, the disease is:

“…a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body.

The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.”

Anyway, yesterday the sovereign prince accepted the challenge, and in the rocky region above the tiny principality of Monaco the sovereign prince dumped a bucket of ice water on his head and was doused with ice water by two of his friends.

And, finally, on September 3, 2014, Prince Albert II attended a “…parade as part of the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Monaco in the second World War…”

On July 17, 2014, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco attended a concert at the Palais Princier featuring famed pianists, Ms. Marielle and Ms. Katia Labèque, accompanied by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo with Mr. Semyon Bychkov conducting.

During last Thursday evening’s concert the sibling pianists performed works by the late Mr. Francis Jean Marcel Poulenc.

On Tuesday, July 15, 2014, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco arrived at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco to attend the inauguration of the new exhibition entitled, Art Lovers.

And, finally on Wednesday the sovereign prince inaugurated L’Ecole Charles-Imbert in Sainte-Agnès, France.

On Monday, July 14, 2014, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco along with the President of France, Mr. François Hollande, and other French dignitaries attended the 2014 Bastille Day Military Parade celebrations along the Champs-Elysées in Paris, France.

On Friday, July 4, 2014, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco attended the 2014 FIFA World Cup quarterfinal match between Germany vs. France football match held at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Earlier this week the sovereign prince was in Chile for a three-day official visit as well as to participate in the opening of the 5th Edition of the Monaco Blue Initiative in Santiago.

On Wednesday, July 2, 2014, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco arrived at the Palacio de la Moneda in Santiago, Chile, to meet with the President of Chile, Ms. Michelle Bachelet.
