News Regarding Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands.

dutchOn Friday, November 8, 2013, Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands arrived in De Doelen in Rotterdam to attend Erasmus Universiteit (EUR) 100th Dies Natalis anniversary.

Her Royal Highness also attended the opening of the Koninklijk Nederlands Historisch’s (Royal Dutch Historical Society) fall conference held at the Koninklijke Bibliotheek in Den Haag.

TMs King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands Arrive in Moscow, Russia. (VIDEOS)

On the evening of November 8, 2013, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands arrived in Moscow, Russia for a brief visit at the invitation of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.

The purpose of the visit, according to RVD, is to celebrate the closing of the Nederland-Rusland Jaar (Netherlands-Russia Year) “…a year in which the Netherlands and Russia emphasize their long bilateral relations [through] a variety of economic, cultural and societal activities…” 

Anyway, after landing at the airport Their Majesties arrived at the Kremlin where they met with President Putin and held a mini photo-op.  Tomorrow the reigning couple will attend a concert, performed by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, at the Moscow P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory.

The King and Queen of the Belgians Pay a Special Visit to the Netherlands. (VIDEOS)

PMBelgiumOn the morning of Friday, November 8, 2013, Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium accompanied by the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Didier Reynders, arrived in Den Haag, Netherlands, for a one-day official visit.

Upon their arrival at Paleis Noordeinde the reigning couple were warmly welcomed by Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands.

After a brief photo-op for the press King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands hosted a gala luncheon in honor of the king and queen of the Belgians visit to the Netherlands.

Once lovely luncheon had concluded Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde arrived at the Staten-Generaal der Nederlanden (States-General of the Netherlands) where they held various meetings with Dutch government officials including the President of the Senate, Ms. Ankie Broekers-Knol, and the President of the House of Representatives, Ms. Anouchka van Miltenburg.

Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands in Buren. (VIDEOS)

On Thursday, November 7, 2013, Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands celebrated the 400th anniversary of Weeshuis (Orphanage House) in Buren.

According to RVD, the orphanage was established in 1613 by Princess Mary, daughter of Prince William of Oranje.  During today’s visit the princess met with staff and youth as well as unveiled a new statue designed by artist, L. Knol, in the gardens of the orphanage.

Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands in Amsterdam.

maximaOn the evening of November 6, 2013, Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands attended the 100th anniversary celebrations of the Amsterdam Stock Exchange building.

During this evening’s event Her Majesty viewed the Amsterdam Exchange Experience an “…interactive exhibition about the functioning of the stock market and listed companies…” according to RVD.

His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands Presides Over the 2013 Erasmusprijs.

WAKingOn November 6, 2013, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands accompanied by Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands presided over the 2013 Erasmusprijs held at the Koninklijk Paleis in Amsterdam.

During today’s ceremony His Majesty, as patron of the Stichting Praemium Erasmianum, presented this prestigious award to Mr. Jürgen Habermas.

Per the official website for the Stichting Praemium Erasmianum: 

“The theme of the Erasmus Prize this year is ‘the future of democracy’. For over 50 years, Jürgen Habermas has been one of the leading thinkers in the fields of sociology, philosophy and politics.  

Central in his thinking is democracy and the commitment of the citizens. He is sharp and critical in his political analysis, but at the same time optimistic about the future of a democratic Europe. He beliefs in the debate, in ratio as the source of politics and in the equality of man. With his humanistic views and commitment to the future of Europe he embodies the Erasmian values the Praemium Erasmianum Foundation holds so dear.

Jürgen Habermas is author of a vast body of work, in which he emphasizes the importance of dialogue, democracy and human dignity. Among his most important books are ‘Zur Strukturwandel der Oeffentlichkeit’(1962) and ‘Theorie des kommunikativen Handelns’ (1981). The present political and financial-economic crisis and the destiny of Europe are subject of his recent essay ‘Zur Verfassung Europas’ (2011).”

Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands Attends the Performance of “Hij Gelooft in Mij” (VIDEO)

MaximaOn the evening of Tuesday, November 5, 2013, Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands arrived at the DeLaMar Theater in Amsterdam to attend a charity performance of the musical Hij Gelooft in Mij.

Proceeds from tonight’s event will be donated to the Kinderen Maken Muziek program of the Oranje Fonds according to RVD.
