On Wednesday, June 4, 2014, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh arrived at Horse Guards Parade in London to attend The Royal Marines 350th Anniversary Beating Retreat.
According to the official website for the 2014 Royal Marines Beating Retreat during today’s important event:
“…the Royal Marines [were] joined on parade by bands from the United States Marine Corps and the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps. Furthermore, a guard of honour comprising of over 100 Royal Marines Commandos complete[d] the line-up of this unique occasion.”
On Wednesday, June 4, 2014, His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge arrived at Goole High School in Goole, East Yorkshire, to attend the launch of SkillForce Junior Prince’s Award. The duke is patron of Skillforce.
According to the official website for Skillforce the award is:
“…part of a program to develop character and resilience in primary-age children, especially under-privileged pupils, as they prepare for the step-up to secondary school.
Peter Cross OBE, Chief Executive of SkillForce explains, ‘The SkillForce Junior Prince’s Award is designed to engage younger learners in exciting lessons, challenges and community projects that prepare them for secondary education, a time when some students can begin to lose their way.
Our program builds up the children’s confidence, resilience, teamwork and problem solving to give them a boost before the start of new adventures and encourage them to take a more active role in their town, city or village.’”

On Wednesday, June 4, 2014, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh accompanied by Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall attended the 2014 State Opening of Parliament in the House of Lords at the Palace of Westminster in London.
Today’s important event: “…marks the formal start of the parliamentary year and the Queen’s Speech sets out the government’s agenda for the coming session, outlining proposed policies and legislation.
It is the only regular occasion when the three constituent parts of Parliament – the Sovereign, the House of Lords and the House of Commons – meet.”
