H.M. Queen Elizabeth II Opens a Hospital

On July 6, 2011, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II along with the Duke of Edinburgh opened up the Forth Valley Hospital this afternoon.  According to the newspaper, Falkirk Herald:

…she toured the £300 million facility before performing the official opening.

Staff, patients, visitors and members of the public joined dignitaries for the landmark occasion.

The royal visitors were greeted by Lord Lieutenant Marjory McLachlan, who introduced NHS Forth Valley chairman Ian Mullen and chief executive Fiona Mackenzie, Cabinet Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon, Minister for Public Health and Falkirk West MSP Michael Matheson, Eric Joyce MP, Depute Provost Allyson Black, Falkirk Council chief executive Mary Pitcaithly and Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Gordon Samson.

She then walked through the flag-waving crowds of staff, some who had been invited to bring their children, before arriving in the main atrium where she met many of those involved in the task of turning the dream of one acute hospital to serve entire Forth Valley into reality.

Highgrove House: The Prince of Wales’s Home and Garden, A Documentary

Okay, it’s documentary time yet, again!  In this series the focus is on The Prince of Wales’s home, Highgrove, and the fantastic gardens surrounding it:

The Prince of Wales takes Alan Titchmarsh on a tour of Highgrove House – his own personal retreat and family home. Prince Charles gives a remarkably informal and candid interview about the outlet for his gardening aspirations, offering a rare insight into a royal passion. The Highgrove estate has become synonymous with all things organic, and Alan finds out from Head Gardener Debs Goodenough and her team what inspired the beliefs of the most hands-on royal gardener in history.

For those who hate gardening, nature, the environment, and crap… you can skip this documentary.

The Earl Spencer (Diana, Princess of Wales’ brother) Married, Again, for the 900th Time This Afternoon

So, there was another wedding that took place on planet Earth this afternoon, this time it was the Earl Spencer’s wedding.  Charles decided to marry for the 900th time to Canadian-born Karen Gordon at Althorp castle in Northamptonshire, England.

The ceremony was private and attended by only a few selected guests.  According to the Daily Mail, the bride wore a:

…fitted lace dress [with a] daring plunging v-neck and held a tumbling bouquet of white and cream flowers.  Her long brunette hair was worn loose and a pair of delicate pearl earrings shone out from underneath her slightly curled style.

After the short ceremony the couple took photos (where they looked absolutely thrilled with each other), chatted with their guests, then gorged on food in the dining hall at Althorp.

They’ll be divorced in a year.
