Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II mets French President  Francois Hollande

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh welcomed the Olympic Torch flame at Windsor Castle on July 10, 2012.  According to the Associated Press, Her Majesty watched as “… torch-bearer Gina Macgregor held the [flame] torch…” then watched it pass to the next torch-bearer, Mr. Phil Wells.

Also this afternoon Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II held a “30 minute private meeting” with new French President, Francois Hollande, at Windsor Castle.

On July 9, 2012, Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall began their four-day tour of Wales.

According to the official website for the Prince of Wales, the royal couple celebrated “…St. Asaph’s new City status by attending a Service of Thanksgiving…” From there they were at St. Asaph Cathedral where they “…met representatives from various community groups and local businesses…”

Afterward, the prince and the duchess opened the Bodnant Welsh Food Centre where they mingled with “… traders, cookery school students, craftsmen, and visitors…”  

Soon, the Prince of Wales was at RAF Valley in Anglesey where he met the Duke of Cambridge as well as the “…Station Commander and Search and Rescue crews…”   Also on today’s agenda, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall were at the:

… Ceredigion council offices in Aberystwyth where they met residents affected by the recent flooding in Ceredigion and members of the emergency services involved in the rescue operations.

On July 6, 2012, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh arrived in Perth, Scotland as part of Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

During their tour, Her Majesty and the duke visited the Black Watch Castle and Museum, visited Perth College at the University of the Highlands and Islands, attended a luncheon at Scone Palace, and received “… keys to the city at the Viewpoint overlooking the River Tay.”

Rare and endangered stream frogs from Ecuador has been named in honor of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales on July 5, 2012.  And, the name is: Hyloscirtus Princecharlesi “… in recognition of the Prince of Wales’s…” environmental conservation efforts.

Pretty cool!   🙂

On July 5, 2012, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh along with Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal, His Royal Highness the Earl of Wessex were at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, Scotland to participate in the “… Thistle ceremony…”

Today’s event was special because His Royal Highness the Duke of Cambridge was “… installed as a Knight of the Thistle”  by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

According to the Telegraph newspaper:

The short ceremony took place within the internal Thistle Chapel and was broadcast through speakers to those in the cathedral.

The Queen said: ‘It is our pleasure that His Royal Highness the Prince William, Earl of Strathearn, be installed a Knight of the most ancient and most noble Order of the Thistle.’
