PalaisPalauOn Monday, March 11, 2013, Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco began their official visit to the islands of Palau.

During yesterday’s activities the sovereign prince and princess held an audience withe the President of Palau, Mr. Tommy Remengesau, Jr.  The princess also met with the First Lady of Palau, Ms. Debbie Remengesau.

According to the Palais Princier, the sovereign prince visited the:

“…Chambers of the National Congress [the Olbill Era Kelulau] where he gave a speech. [The sovereign prince] highlighted the similarity of views between the Principality and Palau on the Planet’s major environmental problems, in particular the consequences of global warming and the preservation of biodiversity.

Then the sovereign prince and princess met students of the Melekeok School who are participating in an awareness campaign on the protection of the dugong, a marine mammal on the verge of extinction. This project results from a partnership between the United Nations Environment Programme’ (UNEP) and the Principality of Monaco.

Finally, their Highnesses visited the Palau International Coral Reef Center, which is conducting scientific research on the impact of climate change on corals.

A working meeting followed around the Minister of Palau in charge of Natural Resources, Environment and Tourism, Harry R. Fritz, HE Bernard Fautrier, Minister plenipotentiary, Vice President, Director of the Prince Albert II Foundation, and Robert Calcagno, Director General of the Oceanographic Museum, as well as the managers of the Marine Protected Area Network and the Palau International Coral Reef Center. This meeting led to examine cooperation with Palau from an environmental standpoint and sign a partnership in support of conservation of the Helen Reef Protected Area.

During the official dinner, the President announced his intention to place the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Palau ‘Off-limits to Commercial Fishing.’

Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden Host A Gala Dinner. (VIDEO)

On the evening of March 11, 2013, Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden hosted a gala dinner at the royal palace in Stockholm in honor of the President of Turkey, Mr. Abdullah Gül, and his wife, First Lady Hayrünnisa Gül’s state visit to Sweden.

Guests in attendance included Their Royal Highnesses Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden, His Royal Highness Prince Carl Philip of Sweden, Princess Christina and her husband, members President Gül’s Turkish delegation, representatives of the “…diplomatic corps, parliament, government, counties and authorities and representatives of Swedish science, culture and business.”

Recently, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco delivered a video message during the 2013 CleanEquity CleanTech Award Ceremony in Monaco.
