On June 28, 2011, it was announced that Their Royal Highnesses Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg along with the Hereditary Grand Duke, Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg, will attend the Monaco princely wedding on July 2.
Per the Cour Grand-Ducale de Luxembourg:
Sur invitation de Son Altesse Sérénissime le Prince Albert II de Monaco, Leurs Altesses Royales le Grand-Duc, la Grande-Duchesse et le Grand-Duc héritier assisteront à la Célébration du mariage religieux de Son Altesse Sérénissime le Prince Albert II de Monaco avec Mademoiselle Charlène Wittstock.
H.R.H. Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg had an audience of very special guests on May 23, 2011 at the Grand Ducal Palace in Luxembourg. Apparently, back in February 2011, the Grand Duchess Maria Teresa visited a children’s hospital in Luxembourg. Whilst there she met with various doctors, hospital staff, and patients. During her visit she promised the patients a tour of the Grand Ducal Palace and today she kept her word.
According to the official site for the for the Grand Ducal family of Luxembourg, Cour Grand-Ducale de Luxembourg:
After an arrival ceremony of the official delegation from the entrance of the Palace, the Grand Duchess wanted personally welcome her guests in the Hall of Honor. On the agenda, was a visit ‘to the discovery of the Palace’ and explained by the Grand Duchess… During this time the children were very interested in learning more about ‘Life at the Palace’ and they seized the moment to ask many questions to the Grand Duchess.
Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa Luxembourg will officially represent the world in the highly anticipated wedding. Whether other family members or political leaders to the Luxembourg delegation are, could not be confirmed yet.
This is wonderful news, in my opinion. Hopefully within the next few days the Cour Grand-Ducale de Luxembourg will confirm the Grand Ducal couple’s attendance for the beatification of the late Pope John Paul II on May 1, 2011.
On March 22, 1956, María Teresa Mestre y Batista-Falla was born in Havana, Cuba.
The Grand Duchess’s life has been an interesting one to say the least. When Maria Teresa was just a wee tot she and her family fled Cuba during the revolution in 1959 and moved to New York City. In time the family moved to Europe. After graduating high school the lovely Maria Teresa Mestre enrolled at the University of Geneva in Switzerland where she majored in political science. It was during her time at university that she met and eventually married the handsome and never aging (a then) Hereditary Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg.
On February 14, 1981, the couple married in a beautiful Catholic ceremony at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg. Today, the couple have five children, two grand-children, and the people of Luxembourg admire her for her compassion, kindness, and warmth.
Yeah, she’s awesome. 🙂
So, Happy Birthday to the lovely Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg!
Thirty years ago today on February 14, 1981, a young and dashing fairytale Prince named HRH Hereditary Prince Henri Albert Gabriel Félix Marie Guillaume of Luxembourg married the beautiful María Teresa Mestre y Batista-Falla at the gothic Norte Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg. Several years prior, the young couple met at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. Both Henri and Maria Teresa were studying Political Science and somehow they met (I suppose they had the same classes, but who knows.) In any event, the young couple soon fell in love and decided to marry. According to Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg, “The more time we spent together it was more clear to us that we would spend our lives together.”
The soon to be Grand Duchess of Luxembourg wore a silk and fur-trimmed gown custom designed by Pierre Balmain. Her simple yet lovely tiara was a handed down gift from the late Grand Duchess Josephine Charlotte of Luxembourg and is known as the Congo Diamond Tiara.
The Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Henri, recently spoke with, Télécran, whereupon he recalls his wedding day:
This day I will always remember as the day that was such great joy. I will not conceal that I was a little excited about the enormous appeal, which had found our wedding in the media. At that moment, but in which my fiancee walked into the cathedral, any nervousness was gone, and I knew that we would now be forever by two for the tasks that would put life and my function to us to overcome together . This moment is one of my best memories.
Practically all members of the major royal and princely houses attended the wedding including HM Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik of Denmark, King Olav of Norway, TSHs Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco, Prince Hans-Adam and Princess Marie of Liechtenstein, all of the Belgian royal family, and many more.
Today the couple have five children and two grand children. Moreover, the couple are still head over heels in love with each other.
So, Happy 30th wedding anniversary to the awesome Grand Ducal couple of Luxembourg!
On January 9, 2011, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa attended the Dancing Procession of Echternach Cultural Heritage of Humanity (La Procession dansante d’Echternach au patrimoine culturel immatériel de l’humanité) in Luxembourg.
