The British Royal Family Attend Remembrance Sunday (VIDEOS)

On Sunday November 13, 2011, members of the British royal family attended Remembrance Sunday to commemorate those who have fought and died for their country.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II laid a wreath at the Cenotaph at Whitehall in London, leading services observing Remembrance Day throughout the United Kingdom.

According to BBC News, more than 7,000 military veterans marched with civilians past the Cenotaph and two minutes of silence were observed.

H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco Attends the 2011 World Athletics Gala Awards

On November 12, 2011, H.S.H. Prince Albert II attended the 2011 World Athletics Gala Awards held at the Salle des Etoiles of the Sporting Club d’Eté in Monaco.  The top prize, “World Athletes of the Year”, went to Usain Bolt from Jamaica and Sally Pearson from Australia.

H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco Attends the 2011 UIPM Congress in Nice, France

On November 12, 2011, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco was in Nice, France where he attended the opening of the 2011 UIPM Congress.  In his speech the prince noted:

It is a major honour to come and speak to all you today in my capacity as UIPM’s Honorary President. In the past years I have had the satisfaction of witnessing the positive developments of your sport, particularly the combined run and shoot event and the introduction of Laser Shooting which will bring greater proximity to the media, to young people and to wider audiences. source

H.S.H. Princess Charlene of Monaco Visits Several Schools in Monte-Carlo

On November 11, 2011, H.S.H. Princess Charlene of Monaco visited the Monte-Carlo nursery and the Saint-Charles school. In accordance to her wishes, and so as not to disrupt lessons, these visits took place informally in direct contact with the children and teachers.

Upon her arrival at the Monte-Carlo nursery, the Princess, accompanied by the Prince, asked the nursery nurses about the proposed daily activities for the thirty-six children under three who attend the nursery. The Director, Mrs Baron, briefly talked about how the establishment is run. This nursery is managed by the Monaco Town Hall, represented this morning by Mrs Vaccarezza, Head of the Municipal Social Services Department.

The princess then visited the Saint-Charles school. The children, clearly delighted by this visit, welcomed the princess in the great hall with their Director Mrs Dupont and Mrs Bonnal, Director of National Education for Youth and Sports.  Princess Charlene witnessed the implementation of educational workshops in an infants’ class, then She wanted to spend some time with the eight children who benefit from specialist A.I.S. (School Adaptation and Integration) supervision within this establishment.

Princess Charlene commented on the quality of the teaching and the school facilities of these establishments and paid tribute to the professionalism of the teaching staff in Monaco who do so much to help new generations to secure the Principality’s future.

On November 11, 2011, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh visited Margate, England.  During their visit the royal couple toured the Turner Contemporary art gallery, a new café, and the RNLI Lifeboat station.  To view photos please click here. 

Yesterday evening, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh attended the opening of the new exhibit, Royal Manuscripts: The Genius of Illumination, at the British Library.

This unique collection of medieval and Renaissance illuminated manuscripts. Collected by the kings and queens of England over 800 years these treasures are outstanding examples of the decorative and figurative painting of the era. Together they are our most vivid source for understanding royal identity, moral and religious beliefs, learning, faith artistic trends and the international politics of the period. source
