Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden Visit Washington, DC.

swedenOn Thursday, May 9, 2013, Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden arrived in Washington, DC for a brief visit.

This afternoon the reigning couple attended a lunch meeting with “…members of the Swedish Congressional Caucus.”  Their Majesties also visited the Department of the Treasury where they attended the unveiling of a new portrait of the “…Congressional Gold Medal that will be posthumously presented to Raoul Wallenberg.”

The king and queen also visited the National Museum of the American Indian and this evening, according to various sources, they will attend a ballet performance at the Kennedy Center.  On Friday, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia will arrive in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a one-day visit.  On Saturday, Their Majesties will arrive in Wilmington, Delaware to participate in the “…375th anniversary of the Kalmar Nyckel’s arrival in Delaware…”

His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh Attends the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

TheDukeHis Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh attended Day Two of the Royal Windsor Horse Show held at Windsor Home Park this afternoon.  During today’s fun event the awesome duke presented awards to those who participated in the Driving for the Disabled event.

Yesterday, Her Majesty attended the opening of the Royal Windsor Horse Show to “…watch her horse compete in Thoroughbred Ridden Show Horse Class…” according to the newspaper Express.

Yesterday, The Duke of Edinburgh attended the opening of an exhibition on board the HQS Wellington in London.  Click here to view photos as well as to read more about the event.

 

News Regarding His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales. (VIDEOS)

PoWbwOn May 9, 2013, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales arrived at Wattisham Airfield in Suffolk to “…award medals to soldiers who have fought in Afghanistan…” as well as to met with their families.  The prince is Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps.  Click here  and here to watch videos as well as to read an article from the Ipswich Star.

And, finally, The Prince of Wales also hosted a reception this afternoon at St. James’s Palace for those attending the UK Trade and Global Investment Conference.

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall Attends a Charity Reception in London.

camillaHer Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall was Vogue House in London this afternoon to attend a charity reception to “…thank ‘House and Garden’ readers who have [recently] opened their gardens as part of the magazine’s campaign to raise money for Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres…” according to Princeofwales.gov.uk.  The lovely duchess is President of Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres.

His Imperial Majesty Emperor Akihito of Japan Presides Over a Medal Ceremony. (VIDEOS)

On May 9, 2013, at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo His Imperial Majesty Emperor Akihito of Japan presented the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun to “…40 foreign nationals…”

According to the Japan Daily Press the recipients were awarded this high honor for their, “…distinguished achievements in international relations, promoting Japanese culture in an international setting, advancement in their specific fields, excellence in social work or environmental work.”

News Regarding His Majesty King Harald V of Norway.

King HaraldsOn May 8, 2013, His Majesty King Harald V of Norway was at Akershus Festning to celebrate Frigjøringsdagen and Nasjonale Veterandagen.

During today’s event His Majesty presided over a medal ceremony in which he:

“…present[ed] the War Cross with Sword to Lieutenant Lars Kristian Lauritzen and Major Kristian Bergh Stang.  Lieutenant Lars Kristian Lauritzen received the War Cross with Sword for his outstanding bravery and courage during combat operations in 2007. Major Kristian Bergh Stang was awarded the War Cross with Sword for his outstanding courage and leadership during the fighting in 2008. War Cross with Sword is the highest decoration the official Norway can provide. The king also placed a wreath at the National Monument prior to the medal ceremony.”
