On Friday, September 28, 2012, Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain attended the 2012/2013 opening season at the Teatro Real in Madrid. Her Majesty along with hundreds of guests watched a performance, Boris Godunov, by the late Russian composer, Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky:
“This is the first time the whole opera is to be performed in the Teatro Real opera house, with all ten scenes and including the Polish act.
The production highlights the genius of Modest Mussorgsky, one of the leading composers of the 19th century. “Boris Godunov” examines the loneliness of the powerful visionary, the people’s fascination with false prophets, and the infernal machine of the struggle for power.”

On Thursday, September 27, 2012, Their Royal Highnesses Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias visited La Gomera located in the Canary Islands. During their one-day visit the royal couple toured the town of Chipude in Vallehermoso where they were warmly greeted by local government officials as well as by the people.
After participating in a meeting with local officials Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia the visited the Bosque de El Cedro at the Parque Nacional de Garajonay and much more.
On Friday, September 28, 2012, Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain visited the Fundación Banco de Alimentos de Madrid (Food Bank Foundation of Madrid) to tour the facility as well as meet with the volunteers who help run this important non-profit organization.
Recently, the Fundación Reina Sofia donated 290,000 Euros to Fundación Banco de Alimentos de Madrid to help finance several projects for the organization. Moreover, the Fundación Reina Sofia “…has also signed an agreement with the Federación Española de Bancos de Alimentos, through which will donate a total of 300,000 Euros to expand joint activity of the Federación and the 54 food banks that constitute it.”
On the evening of September 27, 2012, His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain attended the inauguration of a new container terminal at the port of Barcelona. Whilst there the old king posed for photos, shook hands as well as mingled with very important people, unveiled a new plaque, and then left.
On September 27, 2012, Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain was at Palacio de la Zarzuela to preside over the 2012 Premio a la Acción Magistral award ceremony, “…which grants the Fundación de Ayuda contra la Drogadicción (FAD), in collaboration with the Comisión Nacional Española de Cooperación for UNESCO and BBVA, as part of the ‘Homenaje al Maestro’, to highlight the importance of educational work.”
“Día Mundial del Turismo 2012 is being held under the theme, Tourism and Sustainable Energy: Drivers of Sustainable Development, which aims to highlight the role of tourism in achieving a more hopeful energy future, a future in which the all of the world’s population has access to modern energy services, efficient and affordable…”
During today’s inauguration Prince Felipe gave a speech noting:
“… tourism is a generator of wealth, according to the latest data, is now up to 9% of world GDP and employs 255 million people. In this sense it is also an important and growing generator jobs, which helps to alleviate the negative effects of the economic crisis, especially unemployment and especially youth unemployment.”
On September 26, 2012, Their Majesties King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia of Spain presided over the opening of the 2012/2013 academic year at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) in Madrid.
During today’s event His Majesty unveiled a new plaque as well as gave an encouraging speech to the students.
