His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain is recovering at the Quirón San José Hospital after having surgery on his left hip on Friday. Earlier this week, His Majesty’s sister, Infanta Doña Pilar de Borbón, stated to the press that the king would have surgery on Wednesday, November 21, 2012. That was untrue. Obviously.
Any way, the old king is doing well, according to his doctors, and is expected to leave the hospital in 3-4 days. In the meantime, Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain and His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias visited His Majesty at the Quirón San José Hospital last evening.
On the evening of November 22, 2012, Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain presided over the XXIII Edición del Premio Tomás Francisco Prieto (awards) held at the Museo Casa de la Moneda in Madrid.
This morning Her Majesty participated in a plenary meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Museo Reina Sofía. The meeting was held at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía.
On November 22, 2012, His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias visited the Grupo Móvil de Control Aéreo (GRUMOCA) at the Aéreo de Tablada in Sevilla.
On November 21, 2012, Prince Felipe attended the Patronato del Real Instituto Elcano de Estudios Internacionales y Estratégicos board meeting held at the Real Instituto Elcano in Madrid.
On November 19, 2012, Their Majesties King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia of Spain along with Their Royal Highnesses Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias welcomed the President of Brazil, Ms. Dilma Rousseff, to the Palacio Real de Madrid.
After a private meeting with President Rousseff, His Majesty along with Her Majesty Queen Sofia as well as prince and princess of Asturias hosted a luncheon at the palace in honor of the president’s brief visit.
On November 19, 2012, Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain was at the Museo Nacional del Prado to attend the opening of the exhibition entitled, The Young van Dyck.
This new exhibition is one of the largest exhibitions in the world dedicated to the art of van Dyck according to the Spanish royal court. The exhibition focuses on Anthony van Dyck’s early works “… from the period of 1613 until October 1621…”
It was announced that His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain will have hip surgery on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, according to the Spanish news outlet, Europa Press.
Apparently, His Majesty’s sister, Infanta Doña Pilar de Borbón, confirmed this latest news via a recent press conference. It is unknown why the date for his hip surgery was changed from Friday to Wednesday.
