On Friday, His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias attended a gala dinner in honor of Felipe Calderón, the out-going President of Mexico.

Despite massive protests, on Saturday, December 1, 2012, the future king of Spain witnessed Mr. Enrique Peña Nieto sworn in as the new President of Mexico held at the Palacio Nacional in Mexico City.  Afterward, Prince Felipe along with the Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, and hundreds of foreign dignitaries attended a reception at the Castillo de Chapultepec in honor of President Peña Nieto.

His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias is currently on a three-day visit to Mexico to not only strengthen ties between Spain and Mexico, but also to attend the presidential inauguration of Mr. Enrique Peña Nieto on Saturday, December 1, 2012.

Her Royal Highness Princess Letizia of Asturias was at the Caixa Forum in Madrid on November 29, 2012, to attend the 4th Edition of the Premios Magisterio.  According to the Spanish royal court these awards are presented to “…institutions and individuals whose work and initiatives are intended to improve society by acting in an educational context.”

On November 27, 2012, His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias opened the 2012 Asamblea General de Cámaras held at the Palacio de Congresos de Madrid.

In his opening speech, the future king of Spain spoke about the economic crisis and the rising unemployment in his country:

“Unemployment is a harsh and painful reality in our country that affects millions of people of all ages, but particularly preys on young people… there are thousands of small businesses that have disappeared, causing a significant gap in a business network that is key to economic growth and creating jobs.”

Well, that’s depressing.

Thankfully, he gave words of encouragement to the 1,700 attendees who attended today’s event stating, “… there is no reason to lose confidence in the ability of the Spanish to change things, to recover, to overcome the difficulties.”

On November 25, 2012, Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain, along with Their Royal Highnesses Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias, and their daughters, Her Royal Highness Infanta Elena and Her Royal Highness Infanta Cristina and her husband, Mr.Iñaki Urdangarin, visited His Majesty King Juan Carlos I at the Quirón San José Hospital in Madrid.

The old king had surgery on his left hip on Friday and is expected to be released from the hospital within the next three to four days.

Hospital managing director explaining to the press that His Majesty is recovering well and that the old king is able to stand up with the help of crutches.
