His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain has been discharged from the Hospital Universitario Quirón in Madrid this afternoon. Prior to his release Ms. Lucía Alonso, managing director of the hospital, held a press conference regarding His Majesty’s condition. Overall, the old king is recovering quite well.
His Majesty King Juan Carlos I had surgery on his artificial left hip, which developed an infection, and was replaced with a new one on September 24, 2013.
On Monday, September 30, 2013, Her Royal Highness Princess Letizia of Asturias arrived at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas in Madrid to present awards during the XXII Edition of the Premios de la Federación Española de Mujeres Directivas, Ejecutivas, Profesionales y Empresarias (FEDEPE).
On September 25, 2013, Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain, Their Royal Highnesses Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias and Her Royal Highness Infanta Cristina of Spain arrived, separately, at the Hospital Universitario Quirón in Madrid to visit His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain who is recovering from hip surgery.
Her Royal Highness Princess Letizia of Asturias held an audience this afternoon at Palacio de la Zarzuela for participants from the international youth program, My Europe. The program permits participants to engage in lectures and conversations with prominent European leaders from the areas of business and politics.
Thereafter, the princess accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias arrived at the Hospital Universitario Quirón in Madrid to visit His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain. The old king is recovering from hip surgery.

And, finally, His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain was admitted to the Hospital Universitario Quirón in Madrid this afternoon for yet another operation on his left hip. The reason for the surgery: The old king developed an infection on is artificial left hip, which was originally operated on November 23, 2012, and will be replaced with a new one.
