On Wednesday, October 16, 2013, His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias arrived at the Dirección General de la Guardia Civil in Madrid to inaugurate the Centro de Coordinación de Vigilancia Marítima de Costas y Fronteras.
According to the Spanish royal court, the new facility is the command post for all “…coordinated surveillance and emergency missions to combat drug trafficking, human trafficking and rescues boats among other actions.”
On October 15, 2013, His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias held a meeting at Palacio de La Zarzuela in Madrid with the Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, and with Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo.
During the meeting discussions focused on the upcoming XXIII Cumbre Iberoamericana in Panamá which Prince Felipe, along with a Spanish delegation, will attend on October 17-20, 2013.
On Monday, October 14, 2013, His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias arrived in the municipality of Cortes de Pallás in Valencia to inaugrate“…Europe’s largest pumped-storage hydroelectric scheme at Cortes-La Muela in the Júcar river basin…” according to Iberdola (the company the owns and developed the hydroelectric scheme).
On Saturday, October 12, 2013, people throughout Spain celebrated La Fiesta Nacional de España. This morning Their Royal Highnesses Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias presided over a military parade held in the Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo in Madrid.
Thereafter, the prince and princess accompanied by Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain and Her Royal Highness Infanta Elena of Spain attended a gala reception held at Palacio de La Zarzuela. Guests in attendance, which included various government officials, listened to an uplifting speech by Prince Felipe:
“Today is a day to celebrate that which unites us, to remember our ancient history and appreciate how much we have achieved together. But, most of all, today is a day to reaffirm our commitment to the future, a shared future of harmony and progress for all of Spain and our citizens…”
On Friday, October 11, 2013, Their Royal Highnesses Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias arrived at the Auditorio Mutua Madrileña in Madrid to participate in the 2013 Spain Startup Competition Awards Ceremony.
On morning of October 10, 2013, Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain arrived at the Fundación Rafael del Pino in Madrid to preside over the conference, Por ser Niña, in celebration of the International Day of the Girl, established by the United Nations on December 19, 2011.
In the evening, Her Majesty attended a gala celebration at the Auditorio del Museo Nacional del Prado in honor of Mr. Carlos Zurita on the occasion of his 25th anniversary as president of the Fundación Amigos del Museo del Prado.
On October 9, 2013, His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias arrived at Palacio de La Zarzuela in Madrid to participate in the “…annual meeting of the Board of the Instituto Cervantes…” according to the Spanish royal court.
