On Thursday, January 16, 2014, His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias arrived at the Monasterio de Yuste in Cuacos de Yuste to preside over the Premio Europeo Carlos V.
The winner of the award went to the President of the European Commission, Mr. José Manuel Durão Barroso, for his:
“…career, his commitment to the European unification policy, his work in the interest of citizen participation in the process of European integration, and his commitment to bringing Europe closer to its citizens, seeking always the common good above individual interests.”
On January 15, 2014, His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain received credentials from Ambassadors representing the countries of Kuwait, El Salvador, Croatia, Guatemala, Cuba, Uzbekistan, Colombia, Venezuela, Austria, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Croatia to name a few.
On January 14, 2014, Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain and Her Royal Highness Princess Letizia of Asturias presided over the delivery of the Orden Civil de la Solidaridad Social held at Palacio de la Zarzuela in Madrid.
On Monday, January 13, 2014, His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias held audiences at Palacio de la Zarzeula in Madrid with the Board of Directors of the Asociación de Mercados Financieros, representatives from the Clúster Marítimo Español, and with the Registradores de la Propiedad, Mercantiles y Bines Muebles to name a few.
On January 10, 2013, Her Royal Highness Princess Letizia of Asturias participated in a meeting with representatives from the Federación Española de Enfermedades Raras (FEDER) in Madrid.
According to the official website for the FEDER the purpose of the meeting was to “…reinforce the ties between individuals with rare diseases and their families…”
And, finally, yesterday, the princess accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias held an audience at Palacio de La Zarzuela with representatives from the Federación Española de Donantes de Sangre.
On January 10, 2014, His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias presided over the 22nd Edition of the Premio Bartolomé de las Casas held at Palacio de La Zarzuela in Madrid.
During this afternoon’s ceremony the prince presented the 2014 Premio Bartolomé de las Casas (an award) to Chilean filmmaker, Ms. Jeannette Paillán. Ms. Paillán accepted the award on behalf of the Coordinadora Latinoamericana de Cine y Comunicación de los Pueblos Indígenas (CLACPI).
On the evening of January 9, 2014, Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain arrived at the Cine Callao in Madrid to attend the première of the film, Vicente Ferrer, directed Mr. Agustín Crespí.
The film tells the story of the late Mr. Vicente Ferrer, a Spanish philanthropist who devoted his life to improving the living conditions of the most disadvantaged individuals in southern India.
