(VIDEO) HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco Unveils a Monument.

On Thursday, August 27, 2015, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco accompanied by Monseigneur Bernard Barsi, Rabbi Haïm Korsia, the Minister of State of Monaco, Mr. Michel Roger, and other Monégasque government officials unveiled a monument at the Cimetiére de Monaco in remembrance of Jews living in Monaco who were deported to Nazi concentration camps during World War II. Yesterday’s ceremony was “…chosen to mark 73 years since Monégasque authorities, under pressure from Nazi collaborationist leaders in France, rounded up at least 66 Jews on the night of Aug. 27-28, 1942. They were among about 90 people deported from Monaco, or Monégasque residents deported from neighboring France, during the war…” according to the Associated Press.

In his speech, the sovereign prince apologized for Monaco’s role in deporting so many innocent people:

“..to say this today is to recognize a fact. To say it today, on this day, before you, is to ask forgiveness.  We committed the irreparable in handing over women, men and a child who had taken refuge with us to escape the persecutions they had suffered in France.  We did not protect them. It was our responsibility.  In distress, they came specifically to take shelter with us, thinking they would find neutrality.” 

 

HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco Presents An Award to Mr. Leonardo DiCaprio.

On July 21, 2015, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco presented the Institut Océanographique’s  2015 Médaille Albert Ier pour la Médiation to five-time Academy Award nominee and well-known environmentalist, Mr. Leonardo DiCaprio.

Established in 2014 the Médaille Albert Ier pour la Médiation award is presented to individuals who are committed to protecting the environment specifically the world’s oceans.

On the evening of Saturday, July 25, 2015, Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco attended the 67th Edition of the Gala de la Croix-Rouge Monégasque held inside the Salle des Etoiles at the Sporting Monte-Carlo in Monaco. Tonight’s musical guest was Grammy winning singer and songwriter, Sting.

Established in 1948 by the late His Serene Highness Prince Louis II of Monaco the annual gala is held for the “… generous donors and pays tribute to the work it [the Croix-Rouge Monégasque (CRM)] has been able to carry out with the donations, which finance its actions both locally and internationally…” according to a CRM press release.

HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco Attends a Charity Gala in St. Tropez.

On the evening of July 22, 2015, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco attended the 2nd Annual St. Tropez Gala, hosted by The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation and co-sponsored by Chopard and Giorgio Armani, in beautiful St. Tropez, France.

Held at the Domaine Bertaud Bellau the event raised over “…$40 million [which was] an upgrade over the $25 million raised at last year…” according to the NY Daily News.  Guests were entertained by Grammy award winning singers, songwriters, and Oscar winners, Mr. Elton John and Mr. John Legend.

Prizes during last evening’s auction included two arctic expeditions with the sovereign prince, a backstage pass to Madonna’s last concert tour, jewels from Chopard, an new eco-friendly house on Mr. DiCaprio’s private island in Belize and more.

HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco Participates in a Climate Conference.

On Tuesday, July 21, 2015, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco participated in the Summit of Conscience for the Climate conference in Paris, France.

Organized by Mr. Nicolas Hulot, founder of the Fondation Nicolas-Hulot and the President of the Special Envoy of the French President for the Protection of the Planet, the conference gathered world leaders, scientists, and activists to discuss the “…great challenge confronting [the world today]: how to limit global warming by taking real action, including reducing our consumption of fossil fuels…” and more.

During yesterday’s event attendees witnessed the launch of the campaign, Green Faith in Action. The campaign is a “…global initiative stemming from a coalition of partners with the objective of rendering pilgrimage destinations of all religious and spiritual persuasions, low-carbon cities resilient to climate disruptions.”
