News Regarding TIMs Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan.

JapanOn Friday, November 1, 2013, Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan arrived at the Tokyo International Forum to preside over the 100th anniversary of Sophia University.  Special guests also attending today’s celebrations included Their Royal Highnesses Prince Félix and Princess Claire of Luxembourg.

And, finally, on October 30, 2013, His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan visited the Nishida Kitaro Museum of Philosophy in the Ishikawa Prefecture.

TIMs Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan Host a Garden Party. (VIDEOS)

On Thursday, October 31, 2013, Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan accompanied by His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan, Their Imperial Highnesses Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko of Japan, and Their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Hitachi of Japan, hosted an autumn garden party at the Akasaka Imperial Gardens in Tokyo.

On Monday, October 28, 2013, Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan continued their visit to the Kumamoto Prefecture in southern Japan.

The day began with a tour of the newly restored Kumamoto Castle in Chūō-ku and a visit to the Kumamoto Prefecture government offices.  Whilst at the government offices Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko met with the governor of the Kumamoto Prefecture, Mr. Ikuo Kabashima, as well as other local government officials, and the prefecture’s official mascot named Kumamon.

On Saturday, October 26, 2013, Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan visited the National Sanatorium Kikuchi Keifuen in Koshi in the Kumamoto Prefecture.

According to the newspaper, Asahi Shimbum, the imperial couple met with patients suffering from Hansen’s Disease (Leprosy) as well as with hospital staff. 

This afternoon, Their Imperial Majesties visited the Minamata Disease Municipal Museum and Monument in Minamata also located in the Kumamoto Prefecture.

On October 16, 2013, Their Imperial Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan accompanied by Their Imperial Highnesses Prince Hitachi and Princess Hanako of Japan attended the 25th Praemium Imperiale Art Awards reception in Tokyo.

Established in 1989, the Praemium Imperiale Art Awards is “…a global arts prize awarded annually by the Japan Art Association…” according to the official website for the awards.

The winners of the 2013 Praemium Imperiale Art Awards went to famed Spanish tenor, Mr. Placido Domingo, Italian artist, Mr. Michelangelo Pistoletto, and iconic American film director, writer, producer, and philanthropist, Mr. Francis Ford Coppola to name a few.
