Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands arrived in Ankara, Turkey on June 13, 2012, to begin her three-day visit to the country. The purpose of the visit is to strengthen bilateral relations between the Netherlands and Turkey as well as to celebrate “… 400 years of diplomatic relations…”
Her Majesty is accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs as well as other government officials. According to RVD, the queen arrived at the Presidential Palace in the late afternoon whereupon she was greeted by the Turkish President, Mr. Abdullah Gül and his wife, Hayrünnisa Gül. After holding a meeting, Her Majesty along with President Gül attended a gala dinner held in Queen Beatrix’s honor.
Tomorrow, Her Majesty will travel to Istanbul.

On June 13, 2012, Her Royal Highness Princess Maxima of the Netherlands was at the Sjoel Elburg to attend the opening of a new building.
According to RVD, the new building:
…contains an exhibition hall and an educational space. The new building also offers visitors a chance to watch presentations and information about the social, economic and cultural history of the Jewish community in Elburg.

On June 12, 2012, Her Royal Highness Princess Maxima of the Netherlands visited the Zwolle Muzerie Education Centre to listen to students participating in the music project, Hoor Eens Wat Ik Kan!
The project is part of the program, Children Make Music, supported by the Oranje Fund and the Fund for Cultural Participation according to RVD.
On June 12, 2012, Her Royal Highness Princess Maxima of the Netherlands was at the Streek school in Tjalleberd to participate in the music project, Pop in School.
According to RVD, Pop in School, which is supported by the Oranje Fund and the Fund for Cultural Participation, is a:
…a partnership between Ateliers Major and five elementary schools in Heerenveen and its surroundings. The goal is to provide children to learn to play and sing in a band, and to provide them knowledge about different musical instruments. The lessons are provided by subjects of Ateliers Major with the support of students from the Friesland College.
On June 8, 2012, Their Royal Highnesses the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry of Wales were at the King Edward VII Hospital to visit the Duke of Edinburgh. As you may know by now the 90-year-old amazing duke was admitted earlier this week for a bladder infection.
Meanwhile, Her Royal Highness Princess Maxima of the Netherlands was at Bronovo hospital Den Haag to open the new Mother-Kindcentrum maternity ward. The new modern center offers better care and comfort for mothers and their newborns as well as more privacy for their families according to RVD.
On June 8, 2012, His Royal Highness Prince Willem-Alexander of Oranje was at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam to open the 10th Edition of the School Mission Olympic Finals.
According to RVD, the Mission Olympic is:
… a school sports competition where 315 high schools in Netherlands to participate. After the opening competition over 5,000 finalists in eighteen different sports categories at various sports venues in Amsterdam compete for the National Championship for secondary schools.
On June 6, 2012, Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands was in Gouderak to visit the newly rebuilt neighborhood of Zellingwijk.
According to RVD, the neighborhood “…had to be demolished in the mid-1980s due to the presence of toxic waste in the soil.”
Ewww.
All is well in the area now, thankfully, with redevelopment and reorganization completed in 2009. Finally, in early 2012, housing construction was completed and everyone is happy.
