His Royal Highness Prince Willem-Alexander of Oranje Visits New York.

waOn March 6, 2013, His Royal Highness Prince Willem-Alexander of Oranje, in his capacity as Chairman of the Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, arrived in New York to attend the United Nations special thematic session, Water and Disasters.

Today’s meeting is an:

“…initiative of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.  The purpose of the meeting is to raise awareness, share experiences and good practices, and discuss ways forward towards global actions on water and disasters.

The summary of discussions will contribute, not only to future discussions of ECOSOC, Post Rio+20, Post-Hyogo and Post-2015, but also to help establishing global and regional dialogue and cooperation processes to improve disaster prevention and preparedness by countries.”

Also, present at today’s meeting was His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Naurhito of Japan.

Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands Visits the Exhibition, Beeld van Beatrix.

Queen Beatrix 2012On Saturday, March 2, 2013, Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands visited the exhibition, Beeld van Beatrix, held at the Paleis Het Loo in Apeldoorn.

This exhibition contains various portraits of Her Majesty “…made on the occasion of her 75th birthday…” according to various sources.

Their Royal Highnesses Prince Willem-Alexander of Oranje and Princess Maxima of the Netherlands Invite Special Guests to Apeldoorn.

“Their Royal Highnesses Prince Willem-Alexander of Oranje and Princess Máxima of the Netherlands have invited Their Royal Highnesses Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie of Luxembourg, Their Royal Highnesses Prince Daniel and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Their Royal Highnesses Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Asturias, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, Their Royal Highnesses Princess Mathilde and Prince Philippe of Belgium and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon of Norway to the Jachtslot Het Oude Loo in Apeldoorn today for a private visit.”

At this time RVD has given no reason for today’s private royal visit; however, several sources suggest that it may have something to do with Prince Willem-Alexander of Oranje’s inauguration on April 30, 2013.

Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands Celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Plattelands Jongeren Gelderland. (VIDEO)

On Friday, March 1, 2013, Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands visited Toldijk to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Plattelands Jongeren Gelderland (PJG) a “…forum for the development of young people in rural areas.”

According to RVD, Her Majesty also opened the photo exhibition entitled,100 jaar vrijwilligerswerk door Jongeren op het Gelderse Platteland.

HM Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands Visits Bronbeek in Arnhem.

HMQB75Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands visited Bronbeek in Arnhem on February 27, 2013, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Koninklijk Tehuis voor Oud-Militairen (Royal Home for Old Soldiers) and the Museum Bronbeek.

According to RVD, during her visit to the Koninklijk Tehuis voor Oud-Militairen Her Majesty met with the residents, staff and volunteers of the home.  She also viewed an exhibition whilst at the Museum Bronbeek.

HRH Princess Maxima of the Netherlands Visits the Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum. (VIDEO)

pssmaxima2011On February 26, 2013, Her Royal Highness Princess Maxima of the Netherlands visited the Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum (LUMC) to receive the first copy of the book entitled, Een Wereld Zonder Baarmoederhalskanker (A World Without Cervical Cancer).

The book was presented to the future Queen of the Netherlands by the Professor of Gynecology at Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum and founder of the Female Cancer Foundation, Prof. Lex Peters.

Per RVD (rough translation):

“…85% of women who have Cervical Cancer are from developing countries. Photographer Chantal Spieard followed Professor Lex Peters and Female Cancer Foundation by documenting their work in Indonesia, Africa and Bangladesh. 

The Female Cancer Foundation began in the late eighties by cooperation of the departments of Gynecology, Pathology and Immunohematology at the LUMC. Since then, structural partnerships began in Suriname, Africa and Indonesia. From 2007 to 2011, a preventive screening program began in which millions of men and women are educated and hundreds of thousands of women are screened and treated if necessary. Now there are programs in Indonesia, Bangladesh and in five African countries.”
