News Regarding TMs King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands.

KingWAOn Wednesday, September 4, 2013, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands received credentials from ambassadors representing Denmark, Libya, and Vietnam at Paleis Noordeinde in Den Haag.

Afterward, His Majesty held a brief audience with Professor J.TH.J van den Berg who presented the king with the book entitled, De Eerste Hondervijftig Jaar: Parlementaire Geschiedenis van Nederland, 1796-1946.

Meanwhile, Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands arrived in Leiden to open the newly renovated historic tropical greenhouse complex at Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world.  

According to the official website for Hortus Botanicus:

“The Universiteit Leiden commenced on a program of sustainable renovation of the historical tropical glasshouses at the Hortus Botanicus Leiden in April 2012. 

The level of the first glasshouse has been raised and a canopy walk has been constructed from which the visitor can look down on a tropical forest from above. There is a newly created classroom balcony, which will be the starting point for guided tours of the glasshouses. 

The tropical glasshouses will accommodate scientific collections as well those interesting for the general public.”

HM Queen Maxima of the Netherlands Visits Stichting Manteling. (VIDEOS)

maximaOn the morning of September 3, 2103, Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands arrived in Middleburg to attend a presentation and visit with Stichting Manteling.

According to RVD, Stichting Manteling is the winner of the Oranje Fonds Kroonappel in the category, Helpende Hand.

HM Queen Maxima of the Netherlands Visits Wageningen Universiteit.

pssmaxima2011On the afternoon of Monday, September 2, 2013, Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands arrived at Wageningen Universiteit and Researchcentrum (University and Research Center) to open the new academic year as well as to inaugurate the new Orion Education Building.

The new pentagon-shaped sustainable building houses over 2,600 students with 88 lecture, laboratories, and computer rooms.  After the opening there was a festival for the students which included food, games, guest speakers, music, and much more.

HRH Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands Attends a Concert. (VIDEO)

BeatrixHer Royal Highness Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands attended an early evening concert, held at the Koninklijk Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, on August 28, 2013.

The princess along with hundreds of lucky guests listened as the European Union Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Thomas Søndergård, performed various works by the late composers, Mr. Igor Stravinsky, and Mr. Hector Berlioz.

HM King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands Attends the 100th Anniversary Celebrations of the Vredespaleis. (VIDEO)

WAKingOn the morning of Wednesday, August 28, 2013, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands arrived in Den Haag to attend the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Vredespaleis (Peace Palace). 

During today’s event His Majesty along with hundreds of guests listened to various speeches from Dutch Prime Minister, Mr. Mark Rutte, as well as from the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon.  His Majesty King Willem-Alexander also received the centenary commemorative book, The Building of Peace: A Hundred Years of Work on Peace Through Law, The Peace Palace 1913  2013.   

The book distributed by Eleven International Publishing:

“…examines the existence and the legitimacy of the Peace Palace with an open, inquiring gaze. New historical research describes in detail how this icon of international law, and the institutions that it houses, have survived the past century, with all of their bruises and successes. 

Major authors from different continents have written personal contributions, an extensive photo series shows what happens inside the walls of the Peace Palace over the course of a year, and an expert in the field of international law takes the reader inside and discusses the image and self-image of the institutions in the Peace Palace, on the basis of personal observations.”
