Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands Visit the Island of Saba. (VIDEO)

dutchOn Thursday, November 14, 2013, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands arrived on the island of Saba for a one-day visit.

This morning Their Majesties attended a reception at the Juancho E. Yrausquin International Airport where they met with local officials and students from “…the Sacred Heart and Saba Comprehensive School…” according to Saba News.

Soon, Their Majesties visited the Spring Bay Heritage Trail where they unveiled a “…new information board at the start of the trail…”  An hour and a half later the reigning couple arrived at the Organoponics Farm where they were given a tour and tasted organic produce grown on the farm.

Thereafter, Their Majesties watched a cultural presentation at Princess Juliana Sports Field, attended a reception and luncheon held in their honor with local government officials, and visited the EU Under the Hill Social Housing Project where they met with residents as well as toured several homes.

The King and Queen of the Netherlands Tour the Island of St. Maarten. (VIDEOS)

KingWAOn November 13, 2013, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands began their first full day of engagements during their official visit to the beautiful island of St. Maarten. 

The day began with a welcoming ceremony at Clem Labega Square in Philipsburg where they were warmly greeted by hundreds of locals as well as by the governor of St. Maarten, Mr. Eugene Holiday.  After the inspection of the guards Their Majesties met with members of Parliament and the Council of Ministers.

In the afternoon, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima visited the Milton Peters College and the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex where they met with “…the winners of the King’s Games held in April throughout the kingdom to mark the start of Willem-Alexander’s reign…” according to the newspaper The Daily Herald.

Thereafter, Their Majesties returned to the capital of St. Maarten, Philipsburg, where they completed a walkabout through the historic city center.

In the evening, the reigning couple are scheduled to attend the:

“…Youth Showcase in Festival Village featuring performances by some 250 pupils of several dance schools and Charlotte Brookson Academy, under the artistic leadership of Clara Reyes and Arlene Halley of National Institute of Arts.”

Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands Arrive on the Island of St. Maarten.

MWAOn Tuesday, November 12, 2013, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands arrived at Princess Juliana  International Airport on the beautiful island of St. Maarten to begin their eight-day tour of the Caribbean. Their Majesties tour will take them the islands of Saba, St. Eustatius, Bonaire, Curaçao, and Aruba.

Tomorrow, Their Majesties will attend a welcoming ceremony at the Clem Labega Square, met with the governor of St. Maarten, Eugene Bernard Holiday and other officials, visit the Milton Peters College as well as the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex, and much more.

HM Queen Maxima of the Netherlands Attends an Award Ceremony.

MaximaOn November 11, 2013, Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands arrived at the Muziekgebouw aan’t IJ in Amsterdam to preside over the 2013 Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Prijs.

According to RVD, the winner of the award, plus cash worth 75,000 Euros, went to “…Piet Oudolf for his achievements in the field of gardening and landscape design.”

The King and Queen of the Netherlands Visit Moscow, Russia. Day 2 (VIDEOS)

KingWAOn Saturday, November 9, 2013, Their Majesties continued their two-day visit to Moscow, Russia,  to celebrate the closing of the Nederland-Rusland Jaar (Netherlands-Russia Year) “…a year in which the Netherlands and Russia emphasize their long bilateral relations [through] a variety of economic, cultural and societal activities…” 

This afternoon the reigning couple visited the State Tretyakov Gallery where they viewed the exhibition, More than Romanticism.  The exhibition displays 52 works by:

“…Cornelius Kruzeman, still lifes of flowers by Johannes van Osa, and forest landscapes by Barend Cornelius Kukkuka. The works are profoundly characteristic of Dutch painting – particularly in their attention to detail.  

Masterpieces from the private collection of Rademakers and from one of the oldest museums in the Netherlands – the Teylers Museum in Harlem – which (like the State Tretyakov Gallery) has works which come from the private collection of a local merchant. These will be displayed in Moscow for the first time.

The Dutch paintings will be shown in conjunction with those of the best Russian artist of Romantic period – Tropinin, Kiprensky, Shchedrin, Vorobev and also earlier works by Ivan Aivazovsky.”

Their Majesties also participated in a meeting with Dutch and Russian business CEOs and CFOs.  Discussions focused on strengthening trade between the two countries.

In the evening, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima arrived at the Moscow P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory to attend a concert performed by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
