On December 2, 2013, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark arrived at the Vor Frue Kirke in Copenhagen to attend a memorial service for the late Nelson Mandela.
The former South African President and Nobel Peace Prize winner passed away on December 5, 2013, from a respiratory tract infection at his home in Houghton, Johannesburg, South Africa at the age of 95.

On Wednesday, December 4, 2013, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark visited Danish troops stationed at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan. The future king of Denmark was accompanied by the Danish Chief of Defense, General Peter Bartram.

On November 26, 2013, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark visited the Børnehuset Troldehøj (a daycare center for children) to participate in the project, LæseLeg.
Launched in 2011 by the Mary Fonden LæseLeg is a “…tool which helps children ages 3-6 strengthen their language skills through the method of dialogic reading…”
